1. Nas - Dude came out with one of the most seasoned lyrics while still sounding fresh and revitalized. The general consensus is that Nas put out maybe his best album since God's Son, if not Stillmatic. As a 21 year vet, to also do well commercially, I think he's earned the #1 Spot.

2. Drake - We may laugh at him, but he get's the last laugh. The ladies love him, the dudes grudgingly respect him. His numbers are off the chart. He put out a very good album in Take Care, hate him or love him.

3.Rick Ross - Dude put out 3 hit albums in a row. He's a better lyricist than he shows but he may have the most even approval between mainstream/internet/street fans.

4.Wiz Khalifa - Like dude above said, not great at anything but he seems to attack everything with a positive attitude and has made a big success of himself. Quiet as kept that project he did with Snoop was pretty damn good.

5.Kendrick Lamar - Dude is fire flames right now and with TDE and the Black Hippie movement, they could very well be a Native Tongues like force with the nest 2 or 3 years.

1. Kanye West - Yeezy yeezy how you do it haaaahn Regardless of what people think, come album time, Kanye puts in work and grinds. He's put out video after video, song after song, and is really looking to takeover this fall with Cruel Summer.
2. Rick Ross - Now, granted the fact Rick Ross is an uninteresting rapper, he has been dominating the charts for a good year now, and has been doing well on the commercial landscape. He ain't #1 simply because as a rapper he does not have anything special, but nonetheless, he can come out with good music.
3. Nas - Nas, without a doubt, is coming out with the best raps these days, and has been releasing singles nonstop. 5 singles/videos given the greenlight by Def Jam + Inarguably the GOAT album of 2012, I think that's a great balance between commercial and the streets, even if his singles weren't exactly hits.
4. Kendrick Lamar - These days, 1 hit single is all it takes for a rapper to blow up. Swimming Pools & The Recipe are only buzzing beneath the surface, but getting the name and the anthem out there is whats important. If good kid, mAAd city ends up being a solid 4 mic album, Kendrick might just be the best new artist of the year.
5. 2Chainz - Really, there are only probably around 4 rappers right now who are getting it done. However, this is 2Chainz' trimester, and his time to shine. Even though his debut album wasn't anything special, he did blow up with No Lie and is one of the most recognizable names in hip hop right now.

If you factor out commercial appeal, my list wouldn't change much, probably just take out Ricky and Drake with Lupe and someone else

Peace. Besides summer on smash were did the album lack focus? I personally believe that Ross whole album had no focus at all, I still dont truly understand why the title is GFID, and there is not one song on the album to reflect what he means by that.
