I was thinking about this post and how the fan base seems to now show some hostility towards Obi (easily willing to trade him), Grimes (more recently), Deuce and his offense, the heel turn on Barrett early in the season and the begging of Cam Reddish to get minutes may stem because Brunson and Julius have completely changed the team timeline.

Last year we all wanted a full rebuild. That include Julius gone, IQ, Obi and the kids getting heavy minutes (especially after the end of the season) and tank if we had to.

That changed with the signing of Brunson. Brunson emerging as a top 10 point guard in the league (around 7-10) and Julius re-emerging as a top 5 power forward (around 3-5) have altered plans especially since we’ve seen both of them not only play well but occasionally show elite level of play (Julius Nov/Dec and Brunson (Oct/Jan)) and with both of them we now have a real legitimate 1/2 punch.

Now due to their success and the team success for the most part a lot of the kids mistakes are being under the microscope. We’re no longer tanking we’re trying to figure out how to make a deep playoff run.

In a rebuilding year those Grimes missed threes recently would have been a shrug and it’s part of the game but now with this team those missed threes are now costing us playoff positions. In a rebuilding year Deuce McBride missing shots would have been a shrug and a just focus on development but now it’s hurting the offense that’s expected to go toe to toe with the best of them. Same thing can go for Barrett and Obi and that brings us to Cam Reddish.

It feels like Cam Reddish can help this team win right now (early in the year he looked like our best perimeter defender especially in comparison to Barrett) and his offense is way better than Deuce McBride so that seems to be behind the Cam push.

I just wanted to say I somewhat feel sorry for the kids but I think the time of taking lumps maybe coming to an end.

I got to disagree, we’re about a season (or two) before this current squad should have anywhere near that level of expectations. Let’s confirm they can make it to the playoffs before we start worrying about a deep run. The flipside of that is the kids should be the ones making that playoff push and those flaws need to be identified and worked out. Especially to judge who they need to Pay.

Yeah, my basic take is that unless I trust Randle and Brunson to lead New York into the second round or beyond, I'd rather keep taking lumps with the kids because they're the ones that'll raise the upside of this team. I want to add a big wing defender for bench depth (it should be Cam's role, but for whatever reason Thibs isn't doing that). Beyond that, I'm still banking on the under-25 crew to keep maturing into their roles and hopefully one or two of them is ready to take an additional step when the playoff intensity heats up.

I don't understand trading picks and/or players for more mid-tier guys. Knicks have a roster full of mid-tier guys. What they need is an all star.

Looking back I regret not trading for Mitchell. He was the piece the Knicks needed.
