An excerpt from the KFS newsletter today:
The number that should stand out here is the royal blue “2” next to the +14.7 under points per possession given up. That mean’s New York’s drop off in defense when Randle plays is in the 2nd percentile league-wide, and they vacillate between the best defense in basketball when he sits and the worst defense in basketball when he plays. RJ’s number isn’t great either, and his defense has unquestionably been below expectations. Still, there’s a 6.5 points per 100 possessions difference between their respective differentials. That’s a lot, and the sample size is gaining significance by the day.

(Speaking of sample sizes, I could go through more detailed metrics - for example, Brunson without the other two, or Randle without RJ but with Brunson - but there aren’t enough minutes for those numbers to mean much of anything.)

This is now Randle’s eighth season in the league. In five of those, his defensive on/off differential has been in the bottom 20 percent of players league-wide. Of the three exceptions, two came when he was playing for a new contract (a total coincidence, I’m sure). The other one, which is the only time a team has ever performed better defensively with Randle on the court, was on the 2019-20 Knicks, whose bench was a tire fire of biblical proportions.

The whole section is about how Ian Begley just reported that if the Knicks don't turn things around they'll make a change. Begley states the obvious of firing Thibs, but he added a vague "or something else." Macri thinks the "something else" is spending assets to get rid of Randle. His theory is that Randle still playing in the fourth while Brunson and RJ was because the Knicks are still trying to pump Randle's trade value. They're not concerned with moving JB or RJ, so those guys can sit without issue. The on/off numbers for Randle are staggering.
