It is possible to take out insurance policies on family members without their permission in the US, but the story about her telling him she needs to do it because “black men don’t hail from a race where the man has a plan like Indian men so I have to plan ahead.” sounds like complete BS. The whole story setup of her being from a so-called 'good family', since her father is a doctor, makes no sense that she would marry a man she feels she can't depend on and so must perform underhanded actions. Not calling you a liar, but this sounds like fan fiction. Firstly, I don't think you can take out a life insurance policy on a spouse without their permission, at least not in the US. Second, why would she have to do it secretly in the first place? Having a life insurance policy for a breadwinner is an uncontroversial decision for the vast majority of married couples.
As you noticed, you sometimes have to pay attention to the story being told, not because it is true, but because the nature of the story demonstrates a disguised attempt to insult Black people, (in this case being Black men in particular). Like I have pointed out before, there is an undercurrent of misandrists here on this website, alongside some open ones like the former Sex-Worker.
