I have family in the Caribbean. I can't remember if it's the Bahamas or Bermuda but one of them is racist as hell. When I was talking to mom's I couldn't believe it. I'll find out which one it was tomorrow, don't want to paint the wrong country with the wrong brush.

All those Caribbean countries are no different than America. Except the white minority owns the tourism industry in those countries. Ask a Bahamian, Barbadian or a Jamaican who owns all those resorts that generates billions of dollars :mjpls:

I'm Jamaican, I mean honestly things aren't great for the majority of people but the oppression they face is economic not racial. Jamaicans are some of the most successful individuals I've known as any group. The Caribbean as a whole has a strong and successful small business culture.

The stuff my mom was telling was something straight out of antebellum slavery.

Its not racial toy you because they are not enslaved, being castrated or hanging from trees. Black poverty and white wealth in the Caribbean is very much a part of a racially based economic system on the foundation of white supremacy.

I'm not sure if I agree with that fully, in part yes, but it is really a gross oversimplification and generalization.

They're going to have to deal with it. We need the most help so if more black people get more jobs then white bermudans, so be it. Give us 400 years to catch up.

Could my statement be accurate in regards to the USA? What are the major industries in the Caribbean? I know Tourism is one of them. Who owns all these hotels and resorts? Who controls the banking systems in the Caribbean?

They need to nationalize those industries.

Black countries are lost without military might.

@Marvel I'm nursing a terrible hangover today but I'll write something later today. I find it all really interesting.. we have to be careful to not use too wide a brush and jump at easy conclusions.

alright I was tired, culturally they're close to west indians

Bermuda is in the North Atlantic, as if it matters.

The Bahamas may technically be in The North Atlantic as well.

:manny:
The culture there is pretty distinct because it's an isolated island in the middle of nowhere. I'd describe it as closer to British than west Indian. Their accents are unique and don't sound like anybody else in the world. If I were to try and describe it, it's kinda like a cross between British and Bahamian, but that doesn't really do it justice. They call each other "mate." Your homeboy is your "aceboy." They all say "derr" instead "there."

It's traditionally been a nation of churchgoers even moreso than here. It has like the most churches per square mile than any country I think. And you here a lot of loud reggae playing when you walk around.

Honestly, it's situations like this that makes me believe that Black Nationalist/Pan Africanist type ideals need to make a comeback in the diaspora and continent. Brehs gotta find ways to help each other so equality is achieved. If the big money industry in Bermuda is white collar jobs, then it'd be nice if a few scholarships can be allocated to promising black students to attend good schools either on the island or somewhere else. The idea would be to get a handful on the same level as their white counterparts and then have them create extra avenues for the black pop to come up rather than stay stuck. As much business as Africans are doing, if they opened a spot in Bermuda they should look to find ways for those Black Bermudians to be able to qualify for good positions there.

Feels like pipe dream tho, what I'm proposing requires a lot of political will and money.

After two reads its clear we are dealing with an economic issue not racial one...:shaq2:

I wonder when we will get past skin color, and to the real issue.
