White Alabama mayor says even if he did have a ‘secret meeting’ to keep Black mayor out of office, it’s not ‘so egregious’ as to be a civil rights vio

No, if this were as out in the open as it gets they would be filed in the mayor's office nor giving a damn. Just because they got their hand caught in the cookie jar doesn't make this an open offense. Hell it said he conspired with so many individuals to do this.
They didn't get 'caught'. They blatantly denied a Black candidate's election without due process.

Not covering it up doesn't deny that they did it in secret. Which they did. Standing on the corruption doesn't make all that they in secret go away
It would be impossible to keep their method secret. They knew this before they did it, which is why they're not only making no effort to deny it, they're admitting it and saying they're entitled to do it.

How does that change that all of this was done in secret prior to?

They got a lot of organized channels for everything.

I hear in Chicago CTU has a bunch of super secret chat and communications servers and systems specifically for railroading [black] teachers
They know we don't have much power. That's why its so easy to do and cacs really have been showing their asses these last few years. Just a decade ago whites would tremble at the thought of being labeled a racist. Not today.

It wasn't 'done in secret'.

Hasn't been 'for decades'.

It's just being 'reported' now.
The white mayor of a tiny Alabama town less than an hour from Selma has argued he should be immune from a civil rights lawsuit, claiming that holding a secret meeting to keep the city’s first-ever Black mayor and five Black city council members out of office is not a sufficiently clear violation of constitutional rights.

They argue that Haywood “Woody” Stokes III, Newbern’s white former mayor, conspired with his council, other government officials, and a local bank, to illegally install himself as mayor even after Braxton fairly and legally won the election.

Further, the defendants argue that Braxton’s merely being Black is not sufficient to prove that he was discriminated against on the basis of his race.

A town that has been majority Black for more than 50 years, has never had a Black Mayor in it's over 150+ years of existence, passes down the role of Mayor to Whites only without due process, and when a Black Man is elected Mayor after going through the proper channels, AFTER being lied to by the current White Mayor on how to properly apply to run for Office, is denied by the White people in the Town access to the Town Hall, who then create a secret meeting to illegally instill the current White Mayor and Council back into their roles, deny any of this is racially motivated?

Show us ONE instance of them doing the same exact things to a White person, and I'll believe them, no questions asked... oh wait, they can't, becoming Mayor in that town has always been passed down and this is the first time an actual Election has ever occurred.

I've previously stated before for the Black people in that town to leave, only because due to the conditions of that town that the White people there clearly have no interest in improving the Quality of Life for the citizens. Nah, they need to stand and fight, and force the White people to leave, since they clearly don't want to work with the Black people there, due to their racist beliefs.

Your definition of "out in the open" is insane, then. By your definition, lynchings were covert because the KKK conspired in secret before they dragged a Black man out of his home and murdered him in the town square.

If they simply changed some votes, or something else undectable or subject to plausible deniability, that would be covert. Concocting an eleborate conspiracy to steal an election, stealing an election, and not even denying the conspiracy after the fact is "out in the open" to me.

'Claim' =/ Did

And you missed this while you were cherry-picking....
According to Braxton’s complaint, “Newbern ha[d] not held an election in decades,” in 2020, and instead, the position of mayor was “‘inherited’ by a hand-picked successor,” who then in turn selected the five council members.

Because the office of mayor was treated as a “hand me down” position and all prior mayors have been white residents, no black resident of Newbern has ever served as mayor prior to November 2020.
Only one black person has ever been selected to service as a Town council member; in other words, the council still remains a majority white body.

Braxton said in April 2020, he informed Stokes that he intended to seek election as mayor, but that Stokes intentionally provided him with incorrect information as to how to qualify for the election and failed to notify the public about the election. Despite any attempts to deter him, Braxton said he followed the law and properly qualified as a candidate. Braxton said that Stokes “did not bother to qualify as a candidate” himself, even though he knew Braxton was planning to challenge him.

Braxton alleges that after he won the election, county probate Judge Arthur Crawford told him that since no one had qualified or been elected to town council positions, Braxton could appoint council members. Braxton said he “asked both Black and White residents to serve, but no White residents agreed to join his council.”

So, basically, this was racism 'out in the open'........for decades.

So stealing the election was out in the open, as was the process before it of handpicking white successors. Thank you.

The fact that they were as blatant as they were is why there is a spotlight on it now. If they had chosen a more subtle method, they would likely have gotten away scott free.

how did you get that from what i posted? and using the klan was probably not a best example of out in the open since they mostly drug their victims from their homes at the dead of night

except we arent talking about decades, we are talking about the specific instance a black man decided to run
