(WMC-TV) - Three people are charged with murder-related charges following an early morning shooting that left one person dead downtown. The shooting happened just before 2 a.m. Monday at 275 South Main.
David Santucci, 27, was taken to The MED in critical condition, where he was later pronounced dead. Family in Germantown said he had just started a nursing career with Methodist Hospital
He had left a gathering with friends, possibly a birthday party, when he was ambushed Monday morning, according to family.
Mario Patterson, 23, and Dondre Johnson, 19, were both charged with first degree murder in the perpetration of robbery. Jerrica Norfleet, 23, was charged with accessory after the fact first degree murder.
South Main Street near Martin Luther King Avenue was shut down for hours after the shooting.
According to Memphis Police Department, officers received information that the suspects in the shooting were in the area of Foote Homes, Memphis' only public housing project.
And even though a shooting is rare downtown, many business owners say they do not feel unsafe, and they recognize MPD's quick response.
"I was encouraged that it happened so quickly, the apprehension of the bad guys," said Downtown Memphis Association President Sharon Leicham.
Leicham also feels better knowing that the crime did not happen when a lot of people were out.
"I've never, not one day, felt unsafe down here," she added. "We have more police officers per capita than any other precinct in town."
Jim Davila manages the Rumba Room just down the street from where Santucci was shot, and was outside smoking with a few others when the crime occurred.
"Heard a big bang, shot," he said. "Being in the bar business, you've had situations, but never anything like this – this is an absolute tragedy"
All three individuals charged showed up to court Tuesday. Johnson and Patterson were arraigned via video camera set up in jail.
Norfleet was arraigned in the courtroom. Her bond was set at $750,000, and the other two are being held without bond. All suspects are scheduled to be back in court August 20.
this is pretty messed up. And I don't condone this behavior at all...

I'm at a loss to why this guy was shot. Robbing someone at 2am isn't right, nor unheard of, but shooting an unarmed civilian, unaffiliated with gangs is completely uncalled for.David Santucci probably robbed them of some dope previously, and got what was coming to him. Do I know this to be true? No, but white people would overlook this if they knew it to be true just to crucify some more members of the so called Black community. Whites ALWAYS claim we use this mythical, magical Race Card, which we keep in our stolen wallets and purses, when in reality, they are the first ones to bring race up in normal situations 99% of the time. Not worried about David Santucci, or the CACs who will pretend they are worried either.

Welcome to Memphis.
Edit: I used to volunteer at that hospital
I know you got some stories to share.
Goddamn. I need to share some stories about working in a hood ass grocery store for 3 and a half years one day. Nothing that crazy happened though.Ha, @Serious might enjoy this.
I have a few, but one favorite. That's the regional medical(hence, the MED) hospital, so anytime someone gets really fukked up they get carted of there. One night my junior year there was a crazy incident where these dudes had shot each other, and they both got carted off there, multiple gunshot wounds. They get carted through ambulances, triage and all that and then they're in the ICU. About an hour later they both wake up and realize they're next to each other and that the fukking ambulance techs didn't take their guns from them. I'm in the burn ward changing dressings and I hear three gun shots. Apparently these dudes were shooting at each other from the bedside in the ICU
Nobody got hurt, they missed, but still.... Some jobs were lost that day. I've tried to find a newspaper article for it, but I wouldn't be surprised if the MED suppressed the Commercial Appeal from talking about that shyt.
