Which system had the longest shelf life AFTER the next gen systems came out?

I can't seem to remember now that you mention it... I was young so I wasn't able to buy the systems/games when they came out but it seemed like once my older brother bought a new console, the old one wasn't in play anymore. Dreamcast came out and I don't remember touching the 64 for a while.

The 400 dollar initial price kept folks from copping also. It was out for a while before they dropped the price. To be fair there were other expensive systems out before the PS2. The Genesis continued on for a while because of that.

way after the N64 was dead
