To be fair, the superkick has been more of a strike than a finisher for decades. It's just that WWE was kinda the only promotion that protected the fukk out of the move because of Michaels.

People still use DDTs or variants of DDTs as finishers but it's also used as a setup as well.

Spear is both a setup and a finisher still.

The reason for retiring jersey numbers is A.) out of respect for the player and what they meant and B.) the idea that nobody can follow in their footsteps.

The Sharpshooter is the perfect example of a move from a wrestler who made a huge cultural impact but also, nobody can really follow in his footsteps because its been so many horrible attempts at the sharpshooter since he retired.
