scarface

literally never heard anyone mention superfly in real life except oldheads from the 70s with beer bellies and receding hairlines
Neither film was as good as they are propped up as by many. As a kid, my dad and damn near every body we knew, had the Superfly album...but nobody ever mentioned the movie. I think Curtis had a lot to do with the popularity of the movie.

That being said, I’ve never cared for Scarface either, and don’t get why anyone would wear T-Shirts, etc.. of Montana. He should be the poster child for stupidity and self destruction. Not a terrible film, but grossly overrated when compared to others like it.

I went Superfly based on the soundtrack and slightly better storyline....and lack of over boring stretches that plagued Scarface.

:comeon:school me fam, outside of the legendary Godfather series, what movies were out before Scarface that did the dark mafioso/kingpin story better? You can't look at movies made a decade or two after the fact and criticize Scarface for not being as good.

Idk if you nikkas watch sports but that's the equivalent of shytting on Bill Russell because Joel Embiid appears to be better even though he's not even top 5 (maybe not even top 10) in his own era.

Scarface was and still is a classic, although I agree it dragged a bit at times.

I saw superfly way later in my life when I was going through that Tarantino phase and that shyt blew my mind. A story set in Harlem about an anti hero caught up in the life of drug dealing, looking to nail one big score, he looks at his life of drugs, women and flashy clothes and asks his self "is this what it's all about?". Filled with classic 70s dialogue like "I know it’s a rotten game, It’s the only one The Man left us to play! That’s the stone cold truth.” shyt was cheesy but at the same time pure cinematic gold.

So damn cool when "pusherman" hits.

From what I hear the remake to superfly ain't bad either.

Anyway what I will say about scarface is that I love the 80s Miami cocaine inspired soundtrack. The actual score is pretty cool too. Loved when immortal technique sampled the Bolivia theme:
