Good topic

Early Rakim, KRS, Kane, G Rap, Slick Rick was dope but the 90s elevated from them

90s, then the 80s and everything after that

80s

the highest level of lyrical skill you hear in the 90s was already around in the 80s it was just remixed or flipped a different way in the 90s

the peak of 90s lyricism was illmatic

Marley Marl broke down how Tragedy was doing it already in 88' the production and style was updated but lyrically cats was already there

90s bro

There were outliers in the 80’s that felt like time travelers from the future…but overall they were painfully primitive…it was still the early stages, everything is more primitive the closer you are to it’s infant stages, for the most part.

In the 90’s, dudes had the blueprints laid for them by the Ra’s and Kane’s and G Rap’s etc…they were able to master the templates they provided and expand and evolve them…which is how most things work, you’re supposed to see advancements as time passes….Atari vs PS5 type shh.

Who was more talented might be a better discussion because the 80’s cats didn’t have any source material…they were the source material, especially the ones that predated the aforementioned…they were creating with no references to draw from really…whereas the 90’s dudes had them to build from
