ill say this, until you do a fight sport that involves any kind of grappling...you just dont understand how winded you can get when you are engaged with someone else your size or bigger

its beyond tiring

live wrestling was always what killed my legs, it was never running laps :whew:

ya i dont doubt it

im a huge fan of pyrros dimas

The Amazing Pyrros Dimas Snatch 1995 - YouTube

its always been my goal to get that strong at that size :wow:

i think the disagreement with alot of folks in this thread is simple

some people value endurance

and some people value strength

and the ones who value strength tend to vote football, boxers etc

where as the endurance folks talking VO2 maxes saying cross country :manny:

to me endurance is something you can train alot easier than raw power/strength but thats just my opinion

i will say Clay and other decathletes really encompass all around athleticism.

i think what gets me are athletes that:

are absurdly strong relative their size
are fast, quick, agile
can do whatever they do over time without expiring

everything else is extra to me, thats how i judge it atleast

Discussions like these just lets me know which sports are peoples favorites.

Boxing?

Football? I just posted a guy who does another sport yet scored higher than any of them at their own physical test. Lol If that's not ether I don't know what is.

Basketball? Graceful, ballerinas but missing the strength aspect. The fact that Durant who couldn't bench his own weight is punking dudes shows that the sport doesn't emphasize strength like others in order to be competitive.

Distance runners/Marathon runners? High VO2 max but lacking strength.

Sprinters? Impressive physiques but endurance is lacking.

Decathletes? Perform 10 events that test every aspect of athleticism.

Comparing Strength Power and Speed Performances

Comparing Strength Power & Speed Performances Part 2

Someone is actually arguing this right now and most of the list consists of decathletes. :manny: It is what it is.

ETA: MMA?

the MMA athletes that are well-conditioned are freakishly well-conditioned. Nick Diaz swam to alcatraz and back just because.

Rugby players are up there.

Sonny Bill Williams. Professional Rugby player at International Level and is the Heavyweight Boxing Champion in New Zealand. Just an example.

Obviously there are a few exceptions to this kind of athlete in Rugby.

pic1_wayne_rooney_shirtless_031.jpg

if you didnt know who he was would you say he was athletic :usure:
:snoop:

This dude should never be seen with his shirt off...:aicmon:
I really don't understand why people gauge athleticism by the shyttiest compound lift (bench) :what: It's the least applicable to any situation in the real world or in athletics.
exactly
 Remember that when you have to push a car uphill

My dude Burroughs :salute:

You have to take into account that they also have to worry about grappling/wrestling and ask anyone who has wrestled before how taxing that is.

Not making any excuses for dudes that I have seen gassed after a round of doing nothing though.

Yeah I was surprised more people didn't list wrestling but I guess not too many people actually understand how hard it is. Especially when you account for the weight-cutting and the constant pushing-pulling that goes on.

Well both of those sports require an immense amount of running. More than most sports, and that running occurs on a grassy playfield. On top of that they have quite a bit of contact so being in pain and still maintaining that high stamina is :salute: worthy. Being hurt, having that high stamina, and having high accuracy is also a must.

To compare, football yeah they have a lot of contact but they have all the padding in the world, more than any other sport, plus they are not running all the time.

Basketball, they run but it's a much shorter distance than a rugby or soccer field. Also, they rarely play, hurt.

what rugby player could actually play in the nba. most rugby players could never make it in the nfl. i could name 30 NFL players that would dominate in rugby. rugby players are not nearly as fast or agile as nfl players. there is no Adrian Peterson playin rugby. There is no Calvin Johnson, NoAldon Smith playin rugby

Why are you even comparing the two? I'd fukking love to see Peterson get hit straight on running at full pace by this guy

Rugby is a lot more stamina based, they don't work as much on agility or raw speed as much as NFL. It's pretty simple really. Oh yeah, and they don't wear no protective gear. Nobody knows how an NFL player would cope with rugby.

Could they all take hits like that?

Also, you're telling me that some of the bigger, stronger dudes in Rugby couldn't do as good as if not better job than some of the defensive players in the NFL? Bullshyt.

Man u are actually helpin me PROVE MY POINT and VALIDATE my argument! :pachaha:

There are zero athletes in rugby as big, fast or agile as Adrian Peterson, there is no rugby player that could move like barry sanders, walter payton. Calvin johnson would embarrass any rugby player that would try to guard him. Football players could play rugby easily. But those stiff rugby player that lack swift lateral movements, speed excelleration, would get embarased. I'm not sayin that rugby players aren't athletic or not in shape, but fotbal players & basketbal players are far better athletes. And who cares if rugby players don't have on pads

They don't hit as hard as football players do. Have u hear of the hard hitting saftey Sean Taylor, Ronnie Lott, Steve Atwater, Jack Tatum? Youtube them. They could have easily played rugby. Rugby isn't as athleticly demanding as football. The physical agility that football requires is extremely different.

Answer this question honestly how many rugby players can catch a football (which is considerably smaler than a rugby ball) like an nfl reciever one hand as they drag their toes in bounds? Probably less than 2% of rugby players can do that.

How many rugby players are as fast as Chris Johnson of the titans, antonio brown, mike wallace from the steelers. Rugby players don't run 4.2 and 4.3 40 yd times. Anything a rugby player can do football players do but NOT vice versa. Rugby players mostly rely on brut strength and not the combination of speed, power, agility, on field intellegence by executng an intricuit play (audibles etc)

@Ronnie Lott

Stop derailing the thread. Football players are not even close to being the best athletes

Ok. How many people in the world can physically do what Jerry rice, adrian peterson, barry sanders, devin hester, jerome simpson, megatron, marshawn lynch, dante hall, shady mcCoy. U mean to tell me a rugby player can do what they do?

You really are a horrible poster. I already posted the most fit man in the world in Bryan Clay.

He can do what all those guys can do and more. He scored the highest SPARQ test ever recorded. The same little test all those you mentioned had to perform at the combine.

Just stop talking man.

ETA: I get it. Football is obviously your favorite sport but that is not the point of the thread. Bryan Clay the Olympic Gold Medal winning Decathlete is the most fit man in the world.

Bench Press - 355

Squat - 600

40 time - 4.38

Power Clean - 335

Vertical Leap - 44 inches

Highest Sparq rating ever recorded.

Lol and an Olympic Gold and Silver Medal Winning Decathlete.

Now show me one football player who can do all of this.
