Yes. An athlete is a person trained or gifted in exercises or contests involving physical agility, stamina, or strength.

ANYONE can become an athlete, breh.

Have you ever even been an athlete?

depends on where we draw the line on facets :youngsabo:

sidenote: i played soccer from 3rd grade til 8th grade, im an avid fan of the sport :whoa:

You don't necessarily have to draw the line. Your previous post seemed to suggest that having a nice body contributed to athleticism. I don't agree with that at all. If you're working out constantly, of course your body is going to adapt to that. The way it changes depends on the individual..not everyone is going to get an awesome 6-pack. I think that judging which athletes are in the best shape would be to rate how high each sport incorporates speed, agility, strength, and endurance. Opinions will vary based on how much weight each of those categories carries.

Cross Country Skiing without a question. They have the highest VO2 max of any sport, work under some unforgiving settings and log some insane km/miles during practice and the actual event. Total body workout as they have to use their arms for the poles and feet with the skiis. They go uphill on several events and get minimal breaks.

My bad.

What sport were you talking about then? Shot put? It's definitely not the most athletic sport, but I could go on and on about explaining about it.

soccer/rugby

its mainly cause ive played the sport for so long :yeshrug:

my old roomate was from ghana and he too thought rooney(despite his gut) was the most athletic man on the planet :cheff: then i took him to an Auburn game and he changed his opinion....to Manny Pacquiao :heh:

i guess he's in limbo nowadays :whew:

Well both of those sports require an immense amount of running. More than most sports, and that running occurs on a grassy playfield. On top of that they have quite a bit of contact so being in pain and still maintaining that high stamina is :salute: worthy. Being hurt, having that high stamina, and having high accuracy is also a must.

To compare, football yeah they have a lot of contact but they have all the padding in the world, more than any other sport, plus they are not running all the time.

Basketball, they run but it's a much shorter distance than a rugby or soccer field. Also, they rarely play, hurt.

This is a damn lie.

As far as the question goes, I'd rank it...

1 - Boxing
2 - Basketball
3 - Soccer

But to be fair, it really depends on the ATHLETE more than the actual sport. Because I'd argue boxers are, on a grand scale, in the best shape, but I wouldn't argue that James Toney is in better shape than LeBron James.

In fact, at the top level, I wouldn't argue AGAINST any of the best athletes from any particular sport - to me, it's a tossup between a Floyd Mayweather, a LeBron James, a Lionel Messi, a Calvin Johnson, et cetera.

Really? I heard that FIFA refs have to go through a grueling physical fitness test in order to apply, so I can't imagine the type of work the actual players have to put in.:whew:
