Average starting field position after kickoffs.

2011 - 22.1
2010 - 26.8

Average total number of kickoffs per game

2011 - 10.4

So if every drive started with a kickoff (which would never be the case), and every drive went for a TD, you are looking at an average of 47 extra yards a game (thats the total for both teams). That has very little to do with the increase in passing yards.

The increase is due to the rules favoring the offense and especially passing right now.

Exactly, it's really not much of a factor. The passing numbers are up because of all the rule changes protecting defenseless receivers, limiting contact from db's, further protecting qb's, etc. All of the "player safety" rules really make offense easier.
