A lot of people think pimp my ride was his undoing. I was already noticing his music falling off before that show. That man vs machine album was weak, only a couple dope tracks and it just been mediocre since.

Word. I heard that about Pimp my ride as well. I haven't seen an episode. On paper it should have worked
- it made him great money
- it was the entertainment biz
- I assume hip hop played on it

But it got cancelled.

Xzibit to me was this beast of a rapper who fit Aftermath perfectly.

Snoop and Dre you can tell had real respect for him in the X video.

I didn't like it before but watching that video now is dope. It's pop like but still dope and classic.

The thing is even his lyric content I feel changed at that point.

Why did Aftermath have to sign and drop so many artists? Why couldn't they have stuck to their core artists?

Whatever, I have no place to say anything I don't work for a major.

Time does some crazy shyt tho.

XZ was never signed to Aftermath. He was just affiliated with Dre.

But to your point, lots of labels did that shyt. Aftermath, Roc, Murder Inc, Bad Boy etc. all signed acts that never dropped shyt.

Yeah, when I wrote that I was wondering if Xzibit was even signed to Aftermath. Thanks for correcting me.

I feel he totally fit in. Especially with him touring with them and his verse on what's the difference.

I know about rapper's albums being shelved. I always felt it shouldn't stop them from dropping indie rap - but some of those contracts say they aren't allowed to release anything.

I'm grateful for any rap album ever released. It's hard to make it to that point.

Listen to At the Speed of Life & 40 Dayz & 40 Nightz. Restless you could tell he was going for something different, but it still came out as a good album.

Restless was dope af. I still never heard any other from him in full. I feel like Dre producing a whole album for him would have took him to the next level.

:wow:

You HAVE to listen in order. At the Speed of Life, then 40 Dayz/40 Nightz, then re-listen to Restless. The dysfunctional member of Tha Alkaholks Family does not disappoint

...posting it because this is an example of what Xzibit was doing at the time

The first time I heard Xzibit was on Coast II Coast, the Alkaholiks' album. And I thought he was dope immediately! This was like '94, when Stretch and Bob were playing the tracks before the album even came out. They were all dope!

Dude's first three albums are classic. I still play Restless all the time. I feel like that album was the one that was supposed to really take him to the next level of his career. But it seems like he got more focused on his TV gig than the music, and that's when he started to fall off. If he stayed focus, I think he would've been one of the top tier dudes out West, especially if he had Dre in his corner.

Dope dope MC and his 3 first albums are great. But in some strange way I feel like he kind of got "too big" for himself. It was like he was in the lower echelon of superstar rappers, while he could've been in the higher echelon of less known rappers. What I'm trying to say probably isn't clear lol. Anyways would love to see him work with Alchemist and/or Muggs on a full album.

His debut is personal classic. His mic presence are delivery are up there with the best of them.

And why we're on the subject of Likwit Crew, Tha Liks also have an incredible 4 album run, 21 & Over, Coast II Coast, Likwidation, XO Experience.

But X-z will prob be in my Top 50

He very solid but I never played his albums much. Delivery n voice got kinda old after a few songs in

Def not a goat nor legend but he was solid as hell...no need to inflate his stature
