Just wondering cause I stopped watching regularly around 2001-2002.

To me, then he was just a good top card or midcard guy. Good ring work. Decent promo. Nothing special or unique about him. He was always a formidable opponent for people for popular than him: Rock, Austin, Foley, Undertaker.

He was kinda like Barry Windham in the 80’s or British Bulldog in the 90’s. A guy who can put on a good top card match, but not a unique or transcendental talent. When he started that “I am the Game-uh!” shyt and got the title, I thought it seemed pretty forced.

I don’t know why he’s a 14 time world champion or whatever he is. I mean, I do know why, but...

Smartest & Most strategic wrestler of all time imo, I’d probably at least have him top 15.

People I'd rank above him off the top of my head: Austin, Rock, Taker, Shawn, Hogan, Macho Man, Sting, Warrior, Cena, Bret, Flair...

So he's not top 10.

He'll prob fall in the 11-25 range.

Him being a power player in the WWE for the rest of his life will help his legacy big time because every generation will know him and fans who weren't fans during his active wrestling days will revere him as a GOAT because all they know him as is a guy who helps build their favorite wrestling company and from all the hype packages WWE will continue to do to make him seem like he was on the level of Austin and Rock.

He was a Good Heel, Decent Face.
I tend to think he was a Safe Wrestler.
Even if didn't sleep into the family, he was a legit Top Tier wrestler.
Convincing Champion.
He is one dimensional in his style.
He never had a true rival.
Easily memorable entrance.
The Pedigree was a convincing finisher.

He wasn't a game changer, but at the same time deserved top billing. I would say he is between the 10's and high 20's (21-25).

Deffo not Top 10, but it gets really hard to really place him properly in a spot between 11-25 because then it gets easy to say someone else can take over.

What do HHH and my LV duffle bag have in common?
They're both in the closet and have to be carried by greatness

Top 25. He's comparable as a worker to British Bulldog and Barry Windham, yea, but he was much better on the mic and his longevity pushes him up a bit too.

Cornette sums it up pretty well from my point of view:

Bret was even more harsh but I do agree with most of what he said:

I'd maybe put him in the top 50. He is/was a solid worker and a decent promo but was way over-pushed and way overexposed and has been placed on a level where he doesn't belong. I admit I am not a fan of his whatsoever and he was pretty much the reason my interest in the WWE began to fade. Presenting him as the 'best in the business' and him walking around like he was Ric Flair was so ridiculous to me and his reign of terror drove a lot of fans away from the business and most of whom never really came back either.
