Extremely high.

He might have dropped my all-time favorite stand-up joke from Relentless, after a long tirade about sex and sexuality:

"I can speak for every guy in the room here tonight, guys, if you could blow yourselves, ladies, you would be in this room alone right now...watching an empty stage."

When he actually has bits, he's good.

But I don't like "rant" comics who just say angry things for the sake of saying them. In my personal opinion, Stanhope >>>> Hicks in being able to channel his anger into cohesive bits. But that's just my opinion and I recognize that I'm probably in the minority.

I'm also not the biggest fan of Carlin.

My personal top 3 would be

1. Richard Pryor
2. Freddie Prinze
3. Eddie Murphy

And there'd be no Hicks without Lenny Bruce. Does that mean you HAVE to rank Bruce over Hicks? :usure:

Playing the genealogy game doesn't do anything for all-time rankings.

he didn't follow bruce's blueprint to the point of almost BITING so ... no you don't.

:usure:

How does he almost bite Bill Hicks? By being angry, talking about society, and drinking? Yeah, clearly Hicks has exclusive rights over those things.

Did Sam Kinison bite Bill Hicks?
Did Bill Hicks bite George Carlin?

Stop it. Just stop playing that game. Comedy isn't about that at all, unless you're talking about the outright lifting of bits.

I LIVE IN A CARDBOARD BOX!

"I do smoke and if that bothers anyone I recommend you look around the world in which you live and shut your fukking mouth!"

Dennis Leary copied that entire monologue.

"My name is Jim Fixx and I'm dead now...and I don't know what the fukk happened."

:russ:

Top 5...maybe top 3 for sure. His rant against a heckler is classic:
