Im not gonna lie for the longest time i never thought to question history that was taught in school. At 15 i found Sohh and lurking every sub forum i learned more and more and it also led me to research Mexican history and understand that everybody has a rich interesting history not just one group of people.

I know I'm preaching to the choir on this forum, but the dominant group will try to suppress any and all other history to make them feel like they're irrelevant and to act with deference to the group on the ascendancy.

From the time I could read my mom and grandpa always had me reading about it, watching movies and docs about it.

Everything else I learned in school though. My school's history program was great. Instead of every lesson being about some white dude we learned about everything. They even taught how bad Columbus was. shyt was great. It was 88% white too they were down with the brown tho.

Yeah this. I could read from an early age, so I would read all the time and I would read whatever Ma and Dad had laying around the house.
Of course I didn't understand a lot of the concepts so they would break it down.

And I started 1st grade in a predominantly black district, so they taught us about Black Heroes and whatnot early...

This post was inspired by this thread: http://www.thecoli.com/threads/will-ridley-scotts-exodus-be-the-goat-whitewashing-movie.233936/ I learned a decent amount about ancient Egypt and the whitewashing of ancient history in that thread alone.

Serious question. I like to think of myself as someone that knows a little bit about everything he can do research on, but I always end up learning tons and tons of new information whenever TLR and HL goes into a discussion about black history. It's all well-referenced and everything. Did you take certain courses? Independent research? What's your favorite sources for this kind of thing? What's a good starting off point, in your opinion?

really I just did my own research. My starting point was when I had to go speak to some kids & I didn't know what to say to them. The more I learned I was just :mindblown:

btw this is a good starting point. It will give you a good quick foundation. A few incorrect things but I'd say dude is about 90-95% on point. Breh when you start this journey you bout to take the red pill so brace yourself.

then this one

after you watch those your thirst will increase & I'll drop some more stuff here that I'm aware of.

Learned about slavery in 5th grade.

Didn't hit me about the reality of it until 2005.

I sought to learn more and it increased my appreciaton of the black diaspora and how great it is.

Around high school I was listening to spoken word excerpts from Mumia- Abu Jamal and Angela Davis. I was listening to hip-hop heavy at the time and all of the references I heard from those records sought me to learn more.

Wanna stifle a black person? Hide any knowledge of themselves from view and create lies that force a negative reality.

Dr. Anderson is literally the guy who got me into looking into black history :salute: he made want to learn everything.
