I think it's a wrap for R&B in the US. The music just doesn't sound as good. The emotion isn't there. And I think it's because most of that music is very nostalgic for many of us. Parents and grandparents would play those songs for us at parties, when we had chores to do, when company came over, at reunions, when mom and dad had their little private time ;). The music from that era unlocks a core memory in all of us. Personally, I listen to a lot of foreign music, and they feel pretty timeless to me.

The real issue is Black people aren't raised in the church like that anymore.
The choir is the best way to learn music. Singers are able to connect emotionally to the music that they're singing and its great way to learn instrumentation for band members.

I've considered that too. Back then most singers grew up in the choir at church. But so many churches are being overran by secular music. It's less about the emotion and singing as a group and more about appearances.

You know that made me realize something. The breakaway from the church reflects the separation amongst black communities.

R&B has more traction in the U.S. right now than it has in well over a decade.

Leon Thomas just dropped a heat rock. Victoria Monet, muni long, Anderson Paak, sinead harnett, Jaz Karis and a bunch of other artists have been dropping quality R&B projects.

But the OP was talking about timeless music. It's yet to be seen if the people you named will still have that timeless feel 20+ years from now.
