When you break it down its really New York and New Yorks responsibility alone to be lyrical.

Britney Spears is a vocalist, doesnt mean shes respected. Why? Because her lyrics arent moving crowds emotionally. Theres rappers who some would consider wack like Boosie who have that over her.
brittney is not celebrated as a vocalist

brittney does not make music that is celebrated for it's lyricism

& still if you put brittney & boosie on too stages with nothing but a microphone brittney would draw more just being able to hold a note

removing lyricism from the equation there is no hip-hop/rap artist that would be worth noting in music history

lyricism is the key to hip-hop/raps place in the pantheon of music

without it even the most bubble gum pop artist looks prodigious in comparison

removing lyricism is to reduce the artform to caricature & limit it to being the soundtrack for ignorance

Im almost 100% sure Boosie performing his wipe me down verse would get the crowd more hype than Britneys singing. Your sounding very much like a snob right now. Sounds like your saying lyricism is what gives rap legitimacy:patrice:?

This is false and completely ignoring the full picture of what hiphop is. Note,i never said to get rid of lyricism. I said its specefically new yorks job to do it at a high level.

the crowd in this conversation is without bias or previous knowledge of either artist

what is the appeal of boosies wipe me down verse¿

put him on that stage acapella it's going to sound like kittens dying

the only captivating quality a rapper can exhibit standing alone is the power of lyricism

you definitely tried to downplay the value of lyricism & tie it to devaluing nyc place in the cultures history

stand on it on that all the way don't waver HA

you didn't come in talking about what hip-hop/rap is in totality

you focused in on lyricism

Respectfully this is an insane take.
Pick a rapper who can rap his ass off like a JID or a Lupe and give them any nursery rhyme or any words at all to rap and they can make it compelling to a crowd.
Give me who can’t rap for shyt the greatest verse ever written and it’ll still be absolutely terrible because I can’t rap for shyt and the audience will be embarrassed for me and most certainly not entertained.
Put them back to back and I guarantee you 100% of the audience will prefer JID or Lupe’s “Hickory dikkory Dock” to my Pulitzer Prize level lyrics.

i get what you are saying

a great writer isn't automatically a great performer

my take isn't disputing that

i am emphasizing what hip-hop/raps strength is as a genre

the only category where hip-hop/rap stands apart is lyricism

remove that & it has no way to compare so to downplay the value of lyricism in hip-hop/rap music is crazy to me
