They'll definitely figure a way out to slim it down, but that is a good point.
I wonder if they will make a slim AND a pro version. I'd hope the Pro version is smaller than the current one.

If the PS4Pro is something to go on, then PS5 Pro will have another half folder sleeve on top of the current model.
I’ll probably be labeled as broke for this, but that’s the reason I got a slim PS4 and not a Pro. Loud consoles are a huge pet peeve to me. Slim was whisper quiet. And I didn’t get a 4K tv til last year

People really underestimate the way the new PS5 is designed since you really can’t tell until you get it in hand and start using it. They actually use 90+% of the space it takes up right now and a lot of that is for cooling efficiency. I don’t think redesigning the PS5 will be the same scope as redesigning an already smaller machine like the PS2/PS4.
After owning both of the PS4 designs last gen and seeing how the smaller one still sounded like a jet, I wouldn’t take a smaller PS5 with equal specs if it will be as loud as the PS4.

To my knowledge no big game has been confirmed to available on the PS5, but not on the PS4. So if you don't care about the performance upgrade from the Pro to the PS5 then there really isn't any dying need to get the PS5 now. I feel like by 2022 at the latest Sony will have moved on solely to the PS5.
If Cyberpunk is heat, I'm copping a PS5 immediately
