When exactly did we start hating Cena?

I see so many people talking about how they want the Dr. of Thuganomics persona back, but if I recall correctly, people started to get tired of him in about '06, and the persona was still in full swing.

Cena gets booed because he's the top guy. And compared to the previous ones at the height of the company (Rock, Austin) he's less edgy and seems more contrived and controlled.

The Attitude Era fans never fully got behind him because they don't see him as that guy.

Nah you can boo and all that but trying to ruin the kids fun with the cena sucks crap just let them youngins have thier fun.They all forget when they start watchiin and who they liked?Everybody liked someone who sucked but dudes didnt go ruining your experience at shows is all i meant.They doing it just to be part of the cool crowd at a wrestling show.I understand teenagers but grown men?Come on man.

breh I don't even hate cena..its the E who keeps pushing him as their only main event star to the extent that it hurts some of the other talent because they end up getting buried in the short run or in the long run just to keep getting cena wins ..

I mean damn its not as bad as hulk hogans run but its lasted longer so it just makes the show more boring to me ..for example this past WM I didnt even bother watching..most matches were maaad predictable and didn't make sense seems like the whole show was booked only to get cena and hhh meaningless wins back


if someone gets over they shut him down real quick like daniel bryan , ryback , etc. just to keep cena #1 back in the day when you had more than one company if someone got hot you would keep pushing him and be more open-minded and take more risks but now that its only the E that factor does not exist in wrestling anymore

You are right and wrong.

Yes, ppl started hating him around 06, but no the Dr of Thuganomics persona had been dead before 06 and he was cutting corny-cheesy promos every week. Not that he didnt need to expand from being a rapping-wrestler, but I dont think it was done well

I mean he just doesn't have IT in my opinion. I never liked him. He would be Scotty 2 Hottie in Attitude Era. I don't watch wrasslin' anymore but what I have seen of Cena I don't know how he could possibly be top dog in the company.

in 06, I remember Cena got decent pops in 05 even when he was on RAW.

Thread reminds me of that ECW PPV where he fought RVD and the whole crowd booed him like a heel

It was when he was feuding with Angle and Jericho. Those two were Gods in Smarktown and the feuds were booked to make it seem like Cena was the better "wrestler" which many took umbrage with because at the time Cena was not very good in the ring. I think if they would have booked the feuds more like anything goes kind of brawling style it wouldn't have been as bad.

Anyway, that's when it started. It multiplied when WWE took Cena's rapping gimmick away and gave him a Marine gimmick. Many people thought it was silly propaganda to do with the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan which it probably was knowing Vince's political views...

Then the infamous poop jokes came and "see you at the PPV, bro" followed..

I believe the "see you at the PPV, bro" was actually just WWE writers trolling the crowds. The reason why Cena's character doesn't ever progress now is because it became a troll thing for WWE. I think finally people are catching on.
