When I was 6, a short while before Christmas, my parents told us that if we tidied the whole house and the garden, they'd take us to Toys R' Us and buy us anything we wanted. Obviously we obliged and in the evening we head out.

We run around the store all excited (picked me out that super soaker xp105 :win:) but after about half an hour they tell us we should put the toys down and that its time to go home.

We were standing there like :wtf:, we were so shocked we didn't even argue. After all the hours we spent making the house perfect we couldn't possibly imagine them doing us dirty like that.

We were silent as fukk all the way home, don't think I've ever resented my parents as much as I did then (on some trivial shyt but children's emotions are powerful :damn:) but before we got out the car my dad turned to us in the back;

I don't remember the exact words he used but he said something about how he had never been so proud of us considering how calmly we had reacted to all the fukkery. Obviously at the time I was still pissed off and didn't fully understand but its something I will never forget, because at that point some part of me came to realise that it was ok to feel disappointed as long as you maintain the discipline and principles that are given to you.

i like that part. most people are quick to abandon their personal guidelines at the sight of failure. the problem with being like that (abandoning your principles) is that eventually life really will seem hard and unfair to you when you don't get what you want and that's when you become spoiled. almost like a child. unyielding, stubborn, and set in your ways...

Yeah that's what we thought, but they'd made a note of all the stuff we'd picked out and come Christmas morning it was all there under the tree :gladbron:

I know it sounds like some fairytale shyt but clearly the lesson stuck which I guess is what counts.

Yeah I mean there are a ton of things my parents tried to instil in me that I'll never be able to endorse, but knowing you have the backbone to stick by whatever creed you make your own is something you can't put a price on.

When I was 4 or 5 I wanted to dress up as Superman for halloween and all the kids at school (it was a private school) were like, "you can't be superman you're black."

Life is fair IMO. You get out of it what you put in. Outside of being born with a physical/mental disability you gotta do what you gotta do to make it.

You got broke nikkas mad cause they ain't rich.
You got rich nikkas mad cuz chicks scheming on their paper.
You got ugly bytches mad cuz they ain't cute.
You got broke bytches mad cuz a nikka won't throw their cape on.

And you gotta few mahfukkas sprinkled throughout who just having fun ouchea :jawalrus:

At the end of the day, don't be a fukk nikka and you should be alright :obama:

Probably in 5th grade, Playing in a basketball league....

These 2 white boys who went to my school and ALWAYS got in trouble came to practice with fresh pair of Air Jordans, and then when we had a game they both had the same pair in a different color! Neither of them hardly got to play and weren't good. I had some run of the mill reebooks that my parents probably got from mervyns on...

I asked my how come them bad white boys got jordans and I made good grades, kept my room clean, and played better them but still didn't get no jordans, how is that fair...

Pops basically gave me the life isn't fair speech at that time... :manny:
