I don't know but it was at its peak around 2008-2010 when I got on this hip-hop forums tip

I used to be mad hyped up about tracklists, even imagined some fake ones myself

looking back, the shyt is cringeworthy:snoop:

Rappers started making template albums thinking that just because the shyt has so and so producing and such and such guest artists it will automatically become a classic

50 and The Game were the kings of template albums and songs

Akon and Lil Wayne were the kings of being template features (Ne-Yo and T-Pain too)

You know I never questioned the folks who do this online but this did happen pretty suddenly. I never understood it myself, I mean why hype music you haven't heard? It could be with a fire producer and feature artist and still come out ass juice

Kanye West Good Friday’s because essentially for MBTDF because we wanted to see who was on there and what tracks got finished.

Y'all have to be young. Y'all never went CD shopping and looked at the tracklist and features on the back to determine if you'd buy it?

This gotta be an internet/messageboard thing right?

Before the internet you simply went and copped the album .

All of this dissecting the album off the strength of a released tracklist wasn't happening .

Song titles didn't matter until Wu Tang came out

I remember reading song titles from Wu artist and being mad curious what the song would sound like

Titles like

Verbal intercourse
Duel of the iron mic
Night the earth cried
Winter warz
Apollo kids

Well said.

It was big in early 2000's, when I was a teenager, and there was just way less info, and much more hype for new albums. We would obsess and theorize over track lists and features....Remember when The Blueprint2 tracklist leaked, and on SOHH we were all like what the fukk was "Meet The Parents" about?

And, yes, fake tracklists were a thing, the first one I remember was for Stillmatic/"Nastalgia" in 2001.
