:wtf: WTF are you talking about?? All official Warez group releases are in .mkv format. MKV never went away.

It's 2016, if you don't have a devices that can play .mkv files you already losing.

:snoop: nikkas are really re-encoding their .mkv files into .mp4 files or changing the filesname in 2016.

If y'all wanna convert a .mkv file to a .mp4 file, y'all need to download & install ShanaEncoder. It'll allow you remux/stream copy a .mkv file into a .mp4 without reencoding the file.

Here's the link on how it works & simple instructions (this is where I learned about it): How to Rip Blu-Ray Videos: Part 2 - Remux MKV to MP4 - Thurrott.com

Here's a link to go downalod it: ShanaEncoder 3.2 - Download
why would he need to do all that if all he need to do is change the filename for it to work on his tv breh :francis:....whole lot of unnecessary to me

MKV is the best container for h.264 and h.265 formatted video files.

It never went out of style unless you were specifically trying to avoid it.

I know how to change file formats. I use handbrake on mac to make mp4's. shyt is simple. used to use mkv2vob on windows. mp4 is the best format, cuz it plays on PS3, smart tv's, and all iOS devices. it'd be much simpler if they would just drop that mp4 on the torrents instead.

Use ps3 media server. Even if you don't have a ps3 just run it on your pc and if your sammy is a smart tv it will pick it up

thats ironic. the ps3 itself cannot fukk with mkv's, but it will work with the media server :dahell:

1. Download Plex on your computer and the Plex app on your device.

2. Stream the file from your computer to device. If your device can't play a file, Plex will convert it on the fly

:scusthov: at the thought of still struggling with the PS3 viewing experience. Formats don't matter when you get the right setup with a proper media player.

I don't need to watch everything in 1080p bruh
What does 1080p have do with anything?
most people who like mkv is for quality reasons MP4 is more convenient imo

MKV & MP4 are containers, not codecs. So the Warez/pirate scene preferring mkv over mp4 has little to do with quality. mkv is preferred because it has lot more options & you can do more with it than a MP4. The first paragraph on Wikipedia:

Matroska - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Matroska Multimedia Container is an open standard free container format, a file format that can hold an unlimited number of video, audio, picture, or subtitle tracks in one file. It is intended to serve as a universal format for storing common multimedia content, like movies or TV shows. Matroska is similar in concept to other containers like AVI, MP4, or Advanced Systems Format (ASF), but is entirely open in specification, with implementations consisting mostly of open source software. Matroska file extensions are .MKV for video (with subtitles and audio), .MK3D for stereoscopic video, .MKA for audio-only files, and .MKS for subtitles only.

Yeah, in the past that would've been true. But in 2016 most devices natively support mkv files OR have 3rd apps that support it.

thats ironic. the ps3 itself cannot fukk with mkv's, but it will work with the media server :dahell:

:francis: Sony is on some BS with the fact they haven't updated the PS3 to support .mkv (or subtilte) files. PS4, Sony Smart TVs & Blu-ray players all support .mkv flies, but the PS3 doesn't.

:heh: A device or media player app has to be able to understand & read a mkv container in the 1st place, for changing the filename from .mkv to .mp4 to work. Thar's why it works when you do it with VLC player.

I don't like using my own computer to store media. I only have 500GB. however, my boy has plex on his imac, so I just watch all the movies he downloads on there off his plex server.

plex app is also on roku, and my smart tv along with PS3/PS4 :ahh:

Yeah - if someone lets you access their library that's dope. Like your personal Netflix.

Im the same w my computer. I dont really keep a bunch of stuff. I dont really rewatch shows or movies. I usually just DL, watch then delete after I have reseeded it for long enough.

I have an external HD I keep a few things on like The Wire, Lost, and a few of my favorite movies. Dont really have the need for a big library of movies or tv tho
