When and why did black kids get into anime?

When and why do "some" black kids get into anime? I know for me it was the level of escapism and creativity that helped Foster my own desire to tell stories. Shows like DBZ and Fist of the North Star seemed to suggest that despite overwhelming odds focus and self improvement could win the day. Reminded me of black folks.

They didn't hesitate in placing violent themes in the story. Even in the dubbed DBZ, Videl's beating was still brutal for example.

Like everyone else, they most likely first became exposed to it growing up watching pokemon, dragon ball z, megaman, naruto etc etc.

The ones that delve deeper start watching series online and go from there.

Watched DBZ, inuyasha and yu yu hakusho on Cartoon Network when I was a kid. Went from there.

Me and my niece used to watch it all the time, didn't know it was anime at the time tho. Likewise with Gundam.
