I'm with you on this...they all have their own appeal. It's really because of Craven....the premise, and Freddy as a character, is so compelling. He kills you in your fukking dreams man....
Which is why it paaaaaaaiiiiins me to agree with you on the second point...the remake was in fact wack as. Unlike the originals, it didn't even have the campy appeal or wild imagery to keep you engaged in the story. Make no mistake, it was for the most part always a low budget, campy slasher series (Outside of maybe the original, and Wes Cravens New Nightmare), but at least it had shyt like this to string us along :

This is the problem I have with most modern horror movies...they just aren't imaginative anymore. The old films could be absolute trash, but you were always left with this imagery stuck in your head, and a genuine feeling of terror.
Rooney Mara doesn't have shyt on the original Nancy either.
