hard to earn is my favorite but daily operation is mad close for me. soliloquy of chaos literally makes no sense man

off topic but no gangstarr album is actually premier best work though. that distinction goes to the sun rises in the east
soliloquy and alongwaytogo the 2 best fits for guru's voice imo

Hard To Earn.

The run Primo was on around 94-96 was just :mindblown:. Between 'HTE' and 'Illmatic' dropping a month and ten days apart, his March and April in 94 alone were better than some musicians entire careers. :dead:

Gangstarr, 'The Sun Rises In The East' and 'Livin Proof', all the MOP joints, Jay collabs and countless one offs all dropped in that period.

Daily Operation was him really finding his sound IMO. It was the lanch ramp for him to get to where he was going, but Hard To Earn is, and will always be, that deal :wow:

Daily Operation... I listened to that album damn near obsessively when it came out.

Whats the deal with the ownerz peeps dont like?

For me, by that point, it felt like there was a Gangstarr formula. I kinda hoped they would change it up a bit on this album. 'The Ownerz' didn't have a joint like 'Just To Get A Rep' , 'I'm The Man', 'Ex To The Next', 'Code Of The Streets' or 'The Planet'. Easier said than done, I know, but it just felt like Bars(TM).

I guess, if you helped define the sound of an era you might be reluctant to move on from what got you popping, and I felt like that was the case for this album.

In a wider context, Dilla was making moves heavy around then. It was only a year removed from Madvillainy coming out and inspiring a whole next generation of rappers/producers too.
I think times just changed :manny:

Hard To Earn, Ownerz probably 2nd.

Moment Of Truth was great, though maybe too long.
