damn bro I'd feel like either one of those degrees would be 6 years

aren't most engineering degrees a minimum of 5yrs? and you have two?

how'd you manage, and why/how did you combine the two?

Lol its a hybrid degree. Sorry for the confusion. It focused on Electrical Engineering topics as well as Embedded prgramming and what not.

The Wrong Side of the Tracks
Some college while I was enlisted in the Marine Corps, but had to take a few finance courses to become a full-charge bookkeeper as a civilian. Finishing up on year 2 of my B.A. in Mech. Engineering and am not looking forward to Year 3.

Heard some bad things about it, but I have a guaranteed job when I'm done so that's keeping me focused.

Bachelors, Masters, Law. Now working to pay it off..lol Go Blue by the way. But as to the conversation about the worth of college. College gives back what you put in it. It's the Key to America. Now, some people may get lucky and get rich without it. But the odds are in the favor of those who go and graduate. I believe education is a lifelong pursuit and college is just part of it.

I agree. And not to mention, I meet my best friends and future business partners in college so it was well worth it to me.

You are not lying about that! The networking in college is unparalleled and the bonds you make with people in your class are special. I think everyone should at least be exposed to a college lifestyle at least once in their life. Staying on campus, dorm room, just the atmosphere is different. It's one the rare places that you are free to make your own choices. I loved my undergrad. Graduate School (Masters and Law School) was more about business than anything else. Not nearly as much fun as undergrad.

This is exactly what I was saying, when people were getting all upset. I don't know where I stopped being a progressive for people to think I was speaking in absolutes. P.S. no one reads the longer post, like I said. Anyhow, did you go to U of M for all three...and why'd you need the masters...

Did you dual degree with the ford school

I think there are fair criticisms about tuition rates, college degree inflation, dumbing down of schools, and others, but I think education, including higher education is something human beings should strive for regardless of what job it is going to yield us.

Being a STEM major, there are a lot of classes or labs where it would not be feasible to conduct certain experiments on my own. Reading, watching videos, and learning through others mean is definitely possible, but there have been many times where it was beneficial to have someone help me one on one. To show me my mistakes and to work with me directly to fix them in person. I have also made valuable friendships and connections while in school, some of which I am hoping allows me to get a startup off the ground.

But the VA pays for all my schooling. "Socialism" :blessed:

I did my Masters at another school entirely. My former Job paid for my Masters. I didn't even want to go to work half the time but saw that they were offering to pay for classes so I did it on a whim. (Back before GM went to hell) And I did Law School out of state. Now I'm in Japan. How all that fit together....I have no idea. lol

Might be true.

But I hate when the untalented and mediocre people knock college, I think the "college wasn't worth it" crowd are probably mostly underachievers who really don't have any potential.
all the more reason college should be explained with a lot of qualifiers and honest talk about its limitations. the status quo is that college has been sold to everyone as the demarcation line for middle class careers. there is nothing implicit about GPA, major, or the ability to do free labor for experience after going into debt to get the degree.

on the topic of it being good to have large numbers of broke black people with student loan debt and weak job prospects...no. just no.

broke college grads have fewer children and later in life. they buy fewer cars and houses and later in life. if their outlook does not improve within 5 years of graduation, they will permanently earn less than even college grads that come later in better times.it is actually a toxic situation, and you dont want to add that on top of all the other crap that comes with being black in america. LOL, this literally sounds like a scheme created by someone who hates black people.

and even if you are concerned with culture, imagine the optics of black children growing up seeing scores of educated black losers who are less economically stable than black people who simply graduated from high school and learned a decent skill with training that cost far less than a degree in basket weaving from NYU. that could further damage the role of academics in our communities.

You're assuming wrong. Look at black king's post. Listen, I've talked about this subject more than anyone on this board. I figure that at this point people would know where my perspective is at. I figure that as a regular you would know where my stance is. . If you don't recall where I stand then I don't fault you for that, and then "I" made the wrong assumption. :manny: I just said in like 3 sentences what I've explained further in essay upon essay on here. Right now you're attributing to me what I'm known for arguing against. Not for nothing, but this is what I am most commonly @ into a thread for. You've been napping fam lol.

@VictorVonDoom You also know where I stand on these issues, so I don't know why you're running wild with those sentences ignoring the background of the person who said them and what they most likely mean. This isn't a new topic. This would be the equivalent of me reading @Liquid 's stance on jobs the other day and thinking that he was a die hard conservative because I didn't bring my prior knowledge of his stances to the table. Come on fellas :comeon:.
allright, i must not really know your position. i will take the L on this.

I already hear the "broke ass career students" jokes from my younger cousins when it comes to talking about a number of older cousins who it seems have been in school since the late 90's :russ:. It's really hard to argue with a 20 yr old kid about becoming a MTA bus driver when you see several uncles who own houses doing that and really living that middle class lifestyle in their late 50's while your big cousin who graduated from Albany in sociology is 36 and still living in aunties house :lolbron:
