What's with this "Def Jam runs the game now" myth?

How many of them are making really good music (Kanye and Nas only)

How many of them have real movements (Kanye / Big Sean / 2 Chainz only - that's one movement)

I don't see the domination that others are hyping up :skip:

If all you need are a handful of famous artists to run the game then Interscope, Atlantic, Warner, etc. are all running the game

I agree they ain't runnin' the game as DMX, Jay-Z, Ja Rule were not even close. Kanye is the only one that was on their level of popularity.

You're right it's irrelevant as a measure of whether or not they're running shyt now but it sets a comparison (you should compare now to when they were really running the game)

When they had Ruff Ryders and Murder Inc and Roc-A-Fella all at the same time they were really running shyt

To say they're running the game now is just empty hype (i.e. what Ross is famous for)

Yeah its sorta like winning a championship in a watered down league heh

I thought Rick Ross was with Warner Bros?

Nah he has his MMG imprint with them
so except for Triple C's and Gunplay who are on Def Jam the rest of em are Maybach/Warner
GFID might've been the last album he owed to Def Jam so he can go and sign elsewhere now (prolly Warner)

They're the Yankees. They been on top so long you're just going to talk about them. Even during their lean years

And say what you want no one label has as many stars as they do at all. At all.

Who's saying this? They've had a string of high profile releases back to back to back this summer: Frank Ocean, GFID, 2Chainz, Cruel Summer...but I haven't heard really anybody saying "Def Jam is running the game" though, nobody really thinks of major labels like that..like in the average person eyes they're aren't linking Frank Ocean and Rick Ross' album together on some "aw man Def Jam got their foot on Warner and Interscopes neck right now"...People talk about crews and movements in that regard, not really large major labels

Its still got a nice diverse roster, but it seems like it can only handle about 4 or 5 of them and their projects a year at most.

Edit: So Meth, Red, Ghost and LL are no longer there officially? I mean I know most of them haven't dropped anything in a minute and didnt get attention when they did...but still.

Jeezy, Nas, and Ross are all doing a decent amount of numbers without Top 40 hits. 2Chainz, and the G.O.O.D. Music compilation are on deck. Def Jam is also home to two of the most hit making artists ever in Rihanna and Mariah. I think they hold the record for most number one and/or Top 10 singles. How are they not running the game?
