first of all that's a lie
but for the countries that are having an upswing, it's because the chinese are taking all of your resources; is that something to brag about?
He may be pandering, he may not be. One can make the argument that he is pandering, but you know what, pandering might get him into office for another four years at which point he can be as black as he damn well wants to be. If he isn't pandering, maybe we're just being a lil insecure and looking for a reason to scrutinize him for not being as militant as we'd hoped the first black president would be? Either way, I don't think that's relevant to the message.
While the way he delivered the message was condescending, the message still stands--though conditions are obviously NOT the same for black people, we still gotta go out there and bust our collective (and individual) asses to better ourselves, especially in a system that is designed to maintain the status quo of wealth that has existed for generations; basically, to keep wealth in the hands of white people. But it's naive to think that Obama is unaware of the underlying social issues (he was a community organizer in Chicago and ran a great deal of his campaign at the grassroots level) and that he ignorantly ignored highlighting the issues. He is just unable to highlight the issues in that particular forum, cuz it'll scare white people away. If he scares white people away, he's scaring away a second term as president. Obama is playing chess not checkers. And beyond all that, he's right. We gotta work harder.
Immigrants from destitute conditions jump at the opportunity for an education--any form of education at that, however inadequate--yet, we do not take as much advantage of our free public education (however inadequate) as we should. We need to start making education a priority not only in our communities but in our culture.

Have you driven through Detroit lately? lol The conditions in the hood havent changed since he's got in office - maybe they've worsened. The issue is this kinda talk is condescending. The major point missing is that blacks have been subsidized by the government the LEAST (whites being the most) and the most socially & economically stagnated. The residual effects from this still stand -you just cant say get your shyt together from that.
Again I love the brother and I support him. I acknowledge his hands are a bit tied. He has to talk like this to appease white folks for this election. Kinda like that 80's & 90's talk....I'm tough on crime aka "tough on blacks". Maybe the next 4 years will be a bit different. Yall fall back on "yall hate Obama" talk. It's just criticism. You love your older sister but sometimes you knew she was on that bs sometimes growing up. lol

Obama saved Detroit. They were very close to just closing shop liquidating all the infastructure totally if it weren't for the Auto bailout. Dude even staged a recall of the highest selling foreign import.
On top of that, he supports minority owned businesses. Now, I'm not taking about the barber shop, I'm talking about minority owned government contractors, private security firms and IT consulting organizations.
Again, what more do you want? It really sounds like you're looking for a check. Hate to break it to you but it's not going to come like that.
By the way, there are Black people that benefit from the spoils of success in Corporate America. And yes, this is where most of rewards of being an American exist. Get a job and you'll understand Obama's frustration with these losers he's addressing in that speech.
