I live in Atlanta and kinda follow them since I listen to the local radio show but Heat is my team.

From what I understand the fans don't wanna get tied up to Milsap for 4 years. But honestly I doubt any other teams will give Milsap more than 2 garanteed years at his age so I don't see why the Hawks would even worry about having to outbid 4. He's still a very good player, tho.
He just got 3 years $90 million...

They seem to have a good young core from their picks the last two years, tho.

Not really, Schroder is good and still young (23 going on 24) but then? Taurean Prince played really well in the offs but he was old for a rookie. They just got John Collins who I know nothing about. Bembry is whatever.

As of right now, they DO NOT have a good young core :manny:

Of course the ATL
Took a look at that roster now and literally hit the :gucciohmy:

This is the players under contract they have right now:

Schroder / Delaney
Belinelli / Bembry
Bazemore / Prince
Collins
Plumlee

They also picked Dorsey & Kaba in the draft but have yet to sign them.

Free agents are: Ilyasova, Hardaway, Sefolosha, Muscala & Humphries.

Out of those, only THJR is RFA and they'll probably throw bands at him to stay. They'll most likely PAY Muscala to stay. Sefolosha, Ilyasova & Humphries all should walk unless they offer them some stupid money.

They have plenty of rookie/low contracts, Schroder is on a good deal, Belinelli is expiring next summer. But gawd, Baze is getting stupid money for being mediocre and Plumlee, well :mjlol: No one is touching that unless they give up assets (which they don't really have, save for perhaps Prince?)

2 years agon they had a Teague/Korver/Carroll/Millsap/Horford core (with a good bench), won 60 and made it to the ECF. Teague, Carroll, Millsap & Horford all walked without them getting anything in return, and they traded Korver & Howard for some garbage.

Can't lie, that roster as it is won't see 20 wins next year :gucciohmy:

Do they just tank for a few years and see what happens? What mediocre ass player are they overpaying (lesbianest, stars aren't pressed to play there)? Is it back to early/mid 00s Hawks futility? :mjgrincry:

Chime in ATL brehs @charmander @Steezy @AVXL @#1 pick @Sly Cookin

The teardown of this roster under the direction of new GM Travis Schlenk is a complete indictment of the wayward GM stylings of former Basketball Operations President Coach Bud & GM Wes Wilcox. When Danny Ferry was let go 2 years ago after the 60 win season you started to see the foundation crack and several bizzare player moves later (signing WOAT to a 70 million dollar deal, losing Horford, DMC & Sap for nothing in 3 consecutive summers, trading Korver for Dunleavy, who we just cut, and a CLE 2019 1-10 protected first round pick, Signing Dwight, not offering THJR before the season) have left us in this situation.

We'll try to build through the draft & make smart trades that leave us with cap flexibility (which makes the Dwight trade even more strange) but this roster is in teardown mode and we are rebuilding, even tho the new GM doesn't like that term. Don't be surprised if Coach Bud sees the writing on the wall and makes a decision on his future sooner rather than later

If @Intruder v3.0 is talking about Atlanta sports it's best just to ignore him. He's usually making up some bullshyt or doesn't know what he's talking about. BTW, there's no one on the Hawks roster of French origin. Thabo Sefolosha is of Swiss & South African background and he didn't play in the playoffs for us

I don't really envy yall right now. The team has cap space but it doesn't look like any star is willing to come there right now. Best thing would be to not panic and overpay mediocre players (a la Deng :francis: or Bazemore :lolbron: ).

Yall need to strike gold in the draft or it's looking like a dark timeline for you birds :beli:

They did offer hardaway(he rejected) before the start of the season but everything else is spot on

I said i doubted. :manny: Either way all that talk all over the radio bout how they didnt wanna give him 4 or 5 years as he heads into his late 30s was still nonsense. Noone was gonna give the cat 4 years so why would the Hawks have to panick about offering him a 5th just to compete? Thats the point i was trying to make

The team is finally rebuilding.

The Hawks pushed back a rebuild as long as possibe but it was inevitable. Combine that with the horrible moves Budenholzer made as GM and it makes sense why they're starting over. Just gotta hope Schlenk knows what he's doing.

  1. I think Hardaway is a good young player who is finally putting it all together.
  2. Schroeder needs polishing but I feel he has a high ceiling and just needs to get it together.
  3. They are raving about the Taurean Prince kid that came on towards the end of the year.

Bazemore didnt live up to the contract but last year free agency was just crazy as we saw mediocre talents like Mosgov (4 yr $64M from Lakers), and Tyler Johnson (4 yr $50M from Nets matched by Heat) get paid some crazy amounts. I guess it was just the market to overpay some players and Bazemore and his agent cashed in

Yes you're right, the two sides did negotiate and didn't reach an agreement, but I promise you that whatever THJR's team wanted before the season would have been a bargain to what he's gonna command now. To @Rickdogg44 point, the owner and management were being cheap and now it's gonna come back to bite them
