When reality is harsh fantasy provides a route to the life you wish you lived. When its built in others heads it also helps you pretend as they buy in and provide validation for the particular tale of duck you're pedaling.
Generally people lie out of fear of the consequences of being real and, like pretty much everything, everywhen, it can all be traced back to childhood events which wield their influence on your actions in the present. That last part is exceedingly wild because everyone is running around with wetware scrawled with a childs level of comprehension and that runs their day to day.

for some it’s to create personas that are bigger/more important than who they really are offline…not even being condescending when I say it’s sad
I seen a c00n get exposed pretty badly on another forum and it seemed like it was more important for him to preserve his internet “reputation” than his actual reputation…I had to explain to him that there are ppl in real life who are going to see his name/image associated with some of the dumb shyt he said online and THAT should be his primary concern and not trying to prove to dudes online that he can “stand tall” by defending a fukking screen name (he was running for a school board seat in lieu of someone who dropped out…he had no real chance of winning tho)…my primary goal tho was for him to stop posting and he did…never posted there again or at least not under his screen name…ironically he popped up on CNN a few years after that on some “town hall meeting” segment they used to have…no bullshyt when I say dude wore some minstrel looking outfit (bright red blazer and some white/multicolored plaid pants and a bright yellow bowtie…and he kept ogling this white women sitting next to him
this is the short version of this tale…some ppl who frequented that forum will know who I’m referring to if I say “30 suits”
in a nutshell tho…being on the internet as long as I have, I’ve seen too many examples of ppl messing up real life situations in an attempt to impress random ass ppl online
