The Legend of Furious Styles...and O-dog.

Furious Styles was kicking that knowledge you need and that wasn't in menace. And there was no wild and crazy nikka like O-dog in Boyz N the hood.

Menace was really the story about the gang who killed Ricky Baker, metaphorically. O Dog / Knucklehead caught him and blasted him in that alley.

I just got too deep for most of you.

Forgot this was the Coli.

MC Eiht said Menace was more grimey cuz it depicted life on the Eastside of South Central (Watts) which is said to be grimey and hood.

Boyz in the Hood was shot on the Westside of South Central, with houses, palm trees, but still violent nonetheless.

Boys n tha Hood is a conservative movie, it's classist, promotes respectability politics and sees individual choices as the root of the problem and a way out of the hood. That's why it contrasts the household of a lazy, jobless single mother whose sons both die with that of a strong, conservative father figure whose son survives and makes it out of the hood. Menace to society has a leftist perspective and highlights the structures that render individual choices meaningless. Hence Caine randomly getting involved in two murders and being killed before he makes it to Atlanta (and Sharif choosing faith and still getting killed), while Tre chooses to get out of the car and ultimately goes to college.

I get high and watch Menace and Love Jones, back to back, O-Dog gained the foresight to move and uses poetry to keep up a facade :damn:

nikka what? They either both deal with individual choices or by circumstances. Tre chose to hangout with or be loosely affiliated with them members, He survived and got to college without a charge only because they took too long to find the "ops". Sharif chose religion but he still hung around nikkas who were active in them streets. Caine got killed doing a good thing, trying to save Anthony, but his death is because of the actions he chose much like Ricky's.

Boyz In The Hood was really Message over movie

Menace 2 Society was Movie over message

It comes down to your personal opinion. When I was a kid my father watched Boyz In The Hood with me and we talked about the themes of the film afterward. He wouldn’t let me watch Menace so I didn’t see it until I was maybe 14 at a friend’s house.

Because of how I was raised I prefer movies with a message and I don’t particular care how “heavy handed” or unsubtle the message is as LONG as the movie itself is good. People criticize Spike Lee for heavy handed messages but Spike in my opinion is the KING of making message movies that are still expertly crafted, written, and acted so it doesn’t bother me.

I prefer Boyz over Menace but that doesn’t mean Menace isn’t a good movie in its own right. I think the Hughes Brothers REALLY came into their own with Dead Presidents. THAT film is a classic in my book. It has no flaws.

Menace>>>>>>>>>
there wasn't a character in menace who didn't take the biggest Ls in lyfe you can take :scust:

at least there was some substance and growth in Boyz in the hood.

menace was strictly a downward spiral; the end.

if you feel that as a grown man; alrighty then.
