i collect Too $hort albums on vinyl and i have been a fan for about eighteen years so i will weigh in on this one.
last night my girl and i had her sister and her husband visting and we were drinking beer and playing trivial pursuit (yeah, i'm corny, so what) and i said "baby please put on a record" and she picked "life is..." and that LP is probably his most cohesive to listen to all the way through. it also has a lot of his sickest songs and probably the best old school "riding" flow. when i was young i played "get in where you fit in" a lot but outside of a few tracks (especially "i'm a player", "money in the ghetto" [which basically could just be a sample] and the intro which is hard as fukk but has the same beat as a song on "life is...") it isn't that great. i respect that short has live musicians on a lot of his stuff but that band is shytty and sounds like amateur hour. the production isn't great either.
the DJ eleven/matthew afrika too $hort mixtape which is free to download is better than any of his albums. after "cocktails" i completely lost interest in any of his new records but i did like the song "shake that monkey" when i heard the remix over the beastie boys' "brass monkey". i wish i could find an uncensored version of THAT.
i am a little drunk. WHOOPS.
No disrespect to short dog
But I sat down and made a nice "best of tooshort"
The way to go
A lot of his albums are ehhhh imo
