What's the best game you've ever played/bought on a whim?

I'm talking about a game you didn't really know existed, didn't really check up on or was hyped up for but just bought due to curiosity and/or a recommendation. Right afterwards you felt like it was one of the GOAT games.
For me it was recently

This was about a couple years ago. I didn't even know what the fukk a Persona was and I hadn't really played a good JRPG in a minute. I kept seeing it mentioned online and saw the Metacritic score was so high so I thought ehh I'll try it out soon. I played Persona 3 Portable FIRST(for you "Oh you didn't even play 3 first that's why you stanning this one smh.") nikkaz.

Anyway, I played 3 P, then bough FES when I found out it had 3d models and beter graphics. I played FES for like 10 hours and got stuck on a boss and dropped it for a while and decided to try Persona 4(vanilla) out on an emulator on PC.



40 hours later in bed and I'm not even half way through the game and I'm already putting it in a spot near my GOAT games. I stopped playing the game, turned on the VIta and bought Golden. This version was even better!

Beat the game like twice to see the true ending. Got spoiled near the end on someone but it still didn't matter as the final twist was nicely placed. Ever since I consider it one of my fave JRPGS ever. I always felt like games that you randomly played were always better since you had no expecations set(Bayonetta, Uncharted 2, OOT, 999(ZE) etc.)

Unreal (before Unreal Tournament and wasnt that big of a series). Forgot how I even got it.. but turned into the GOAT fps series right after

Starcraft I guess.. I downloaded the demo (had 1 map) and was and it was my first RTS experience

I bought both this (TTK edition) and Shovel Knight over Xmas both for sub £30 total. One of the best purchases I've made on both fronts.
Destiny has content for days and is fun as shyt. Shovel Knight is also fun, frustrating, nostalgic, original, charming and all in all dope as hell. I have no ideas how brehs are speeding running levels in sub 4 mins, each level's taken me a good 30-40mins to complete

I also bought LOTR Mordor & Dishonoured but they're still in their wrappers

Civ V. Watched a stream and it was the epitome of , my friend said it's something you have to play to understand and I respect his taste in games. I saw it on a Steam sale , said 'fukk it' and the rest was . shyt had me up the whole night building my nation, politicing & fighting invaders try to get my riches. This art ain't imitating real life.

GTA 3: I was at gamestop bout to buy something. I overheard two dudes saying u can get hookers in GTA. I was like. i changed my mind so quick on whatever i was about to get. copped that GTA and gaming has never been the same to me.

runner up: Golden Eye. Went to buy Madden and just needed another game. Saw James Bond on the cover and said and copped it.
