For BBQ, it's probably Pecan Lodge. Ten Fifty and Lockharts are both pretty good.

None of these spots matches up to the GOAT...but that place no longer exists. Carter's BBQ near Fair Park used to be the BEST BY FAR. Old man Carter had a tiny little shack with brisket, chopped beef, hot links, sweet potato pie, potato salad etc. The sauce is still the best I've ever had. We need more Southern/East Texas style joints around here...basically more black American-style BBQ. Everything now is based on Central Texas style which is ok, but overrated. Central Texas (German/Czech/Polish) = sauce is trash and no one cares for it (they'll say "good 'que doesn't need sauce...same people that don't put hot sauce on chicken...don't trust them), no hot links/greens/sweet potato pie, heavy emphasis on brisket.

Hands down Cattleack BBQ. They are only open two days a week for like 5 hours and you better get there really early or else you will wait in line for hours, no joke. It's the best BBQ I have ever tasted.

Hutchins BBQ is also A1

Chef G's and Sparkle creations. They are in a food truck.
Hutchin's is solid and has all you can eat for 25 dollars. Bone Daddy's is solid as well.

When I worked on Harwood, we used to but up this place. Think they was in Malcom X. Used to have a hellafied link sandwich. Just remember the last at the counter had no patience for me.

I don't think Central Texas BBQ is overrated at all. Growing up on East Texas BBQ, we were always told beef ribs was tough and when we had brisket, it was aight. But what a good pit master does with beef ribs and brisket:ohlawd:. They sausages to are great too.
