Whats my chances of being a cop?

Im 19. Currently enrolled in school. I am an Accounting major, but im not sure if thats what i want to do with my life. When i was 17 i was arrested for a misdemeanor (dime bag), but i stopped smoking. I want to take the next text to join the academy. I have no psychological problems, i just started working out, and my grades in school are okay (2.6). Will any of this affect my application and how long will it take for me to get hired? The next test is this summer.

What type of cop? C.O.? Beat cop?

Just do well on the entrance exam and physical performance test and you will be in. I have known people who have worst records then you and made it. It shouldn't be a problem.

I liked it in my first semester, but after talking with my teacher about the field, i couldn't see myself doing it. I've always liked standing on my feet.

I don't think you should have a problem, but the further removed you are from that charge (assuming it stuck), the better.

I've worked with a lot of cops and I really don't think there are standards.



If you stick with accounting and pull your grades up, you'd be a prime candidate for the FBI, if that's of any interest.

Probably depends if you were charged as an adult. also depends on if its possible to have it expunged from your record. the laws are different state to state.

You have to get your degree first. keep your nose clean. I'm in a similar process and nikkas dropping like flies for having just a lil dirt in they're books. Local cops probably aren't held to a higher standard but don't risk it.

The pot usage is going to be an issue right now and will be an automatic "throw into the bushes" application, because you are still young and it happened two years ago.
Maybe with sometime, it can get looked over in consideration to your life history, like finishing college, working a job, not getting arrested for any non-traffic crimes for a couple of years.

yeah the pot is so soon... depending on how bad they need cops it either will or will not be an issue. Where you a habitual smoker? If not then possibly, if it was an everyday thing then most likely it'll affect things. Either way when they ask be 100% honest, 1 lie and it's over. Accounting is cake btw. go to a gym if you want to be on your feet
