I'm curious because the Catholicism seems to underline so many peoples cultures and habits.
What's it like to grow up Catholic?
Not much different than other religions.

I was raised catholic from birth until my mid/late teens. Then i attended a Church of Christ every sunday for almost 2 years. Also attended a Baptist church for about a year on and off.
Aside from the traditions and customs of catholicism there wasnt much difference. :yeshrug:
All Christians who believe that they can sin wildly during the week and then feel much better about themselves by Sunday afternoon because they went to church that morning and asked for forgiveness. Only thing is there are many more things in Catholicism that are considered sacred and heavily frowned upon whereas the other Christian religions you can get away with much more. Take divorce for instance. THe way marriages and divorces are looked upon among Baptists and CoC (Church Of Christ) people is more leniant than catholics. As a Catholic, getting married is considered a holy union sacred by God and divorce shouldnt even be looked at as an option even tho it is. But I feel like for baptists and CoC people marriage is just like another business transaction that you can get in and out whenever you feel like. That's why they get married so quickly because they look at it as "if i dont like it i can always get out". Whereas catholics are shamed and deterred from divorces with every tool the church can use .

Now that i think about it it kinda makes sense because if i'm not mistaken the reason King James left the traditional Catholic influence Church was because they wouldnt let him get a divorce. Someone please correct me on that since ya'll know religion has never been my most knowledgeable subject.

Side note: It's always been funny to me how Voodoo in the Caribbean and latin America tends to intertwine with Catholicism, tho. Growing up in Haiti i remember some people would practice both is not all 3 (Catholicism, Voodoo and Protestant/Baptists)

If North Africa never got islamized then the Catholic Church would have never had as much power as they do now.
Not sure i get what you tried to say there.
I know a spanish cac and he told me they are taught black people are evil in Sunday School:mjpls:
That's most likely the preacher who's racist. You think Catholicism in predominantly black countries preach the same thing.
You're smarter than that, breh :comeon:

I was born and raised catholic. shyt was wack. My grandmoms wouldn’t let me play from Good Friday to Easter. I hated that shyt. My moms was never really into church. I don’t follow it any more. I did baptize my kids out of tradition but that’s about it.

That’s because they are simply watered down versions of Catholicism.

Now that i think about it it kinda makes sense because if i'm not mistaken the reason King James left the traditional Catholic influence Church was because they wouldnt let him get a divorce.

King Henry, the monarch of England, was married to Catherine of Aragon (from Spain).

England and Spain were big Catholic Kingdoms.

Catherine was barren and couldn’t produce an heir.

One of the Kings first duties is to produce an heir to secure the throne.

So King Henry asked the Pope to pronounce his marriage invalid so he could find another wife to produce an heir.

The Pope said no. He also didn’t want to upset Spain which was the most powerful Kingdom at the time and the closest ally to the Pope.

King Henry, whose first duty was to England, renounced Cathocism and declared the Popes authority invalid in Brittania. He then, with the help of Oliver Cromwell, consecrated the Church of England, making it the official religion of the state, and appointing the Crown as the head of the Church.

His great great nephew, King James, established the King James Version of the Bible, which is the Bible according to the Church of England.

When the early colonist came to America, the first churches that were established in the Colonies were Anglican churches.

When America decided to rebel against England, they divulged themselves of any associations with England. That included the Anglican churches. What they did was just change the name to the Episcopal Church at the onset of the Revolutionary War.

Most of the founders of this country were Episcopalian. Roman Catholicism was looked at as being “foreign” and the “religion of the poor immigrants” (the irish, Italians, latins) which is why it was a big deal when John F. Kennedy was elected as the first “Catholic President”.

All other American Christian denominations are splintered versions of the Episcopal Church, which splintered from the Church of England/Anglican Church, which splintered from Roman Catholicism.

I will say, Roman Catholicsm, Church of England, and the Episcopal Church pretty much look the same. Their splits came from not doctrinal matters but differences in power and authority. The other American denominations splintered for various reasons including doctrinal matters.

Edit: I forgot, Catherine wasn’t barren. She couldn’t produce a male heir, which was requisite for securing the throne. Her and Henry, did have a daughter, Queen Mary aka Bloody Mary, who being influenced by her mother’s Catholicism, mercilessly killed many “defectors of the faith” (Catholicism). Her sister, Queen Elizabeth, the daughter of Anne Boleyn, I believe had to kill her, and then legitimize the Church of England after her father.

Lots of history.
Y’all nikkas telling me you never watched the Tudors? It’s the Game of Thrones before Game of Thrones. Only real life shyt.

then what is?

Catholicism doesn’t follow the word of God in the same sense a true Christian would. They have their own man made doctrine, which real Christians would probably consider immoral and false.

Now correct me if I’m wrong - but exalting Mary aka mother of Jesus would be considered a form of idolatry to real Christians. And it would also go against God to confess your sins to a priest aka man, as only God can forgive sin.

I was raised Catholic. Went through Baptism, Confirmation and Holy Communion. Never had or dealt with any of the sexual accusations you hear about today. which to me just put a bad light on Catholicism. Honestly if i could find a black catholic church I would go in a heartbeat, but haven't been able to. So I just go to a non denominational church. At least Catholics are in and out. It doesn't take 2 hours to get your point across. Also they don't have to take collections 3 times during service.
