It’s not a fad. You can’t be a sneaker head and not be into Jordan’s and Nikes
I say it's a fad for them because it's the "cool" thing. Temporary sneakerheads that became so during the pandemic with the stimulus money.

To your second part: yes you definitely can. Plenty of collectors that are into Diadora, Saucony, Vans, Adidas, New Balance, ASICS and they could not care less about what Nike/Jordan is putting out.
