What years in the NFL did a conference championship game feel like the “real” Super Bowl?

Niners/cowboys in the 90s

Felt like the spurs/lakers run
Definitely. Ppl forget that SFwas 14-2 in 1992. Young had just won his first MVP. Buffalo's 92 team was arguably the weakest one of their run.We see what Dallas did too them. I am pretty sure SF wouldve beat them handily in the SB. Even though they had a no punt, shootout that same yr, that Buffalo won in Candlestick, 34-31. I dont think Jerry played, though

If by way of miracle, the Rams beat SF in 89, who's to say they beat Denver in the SB. Wouldnt say 90, either, because no one expected the NYG to beat Buffalo in SB25..
You're absolutely right with the rams. In 90 the bills and giants played eachother in the regular and buffalo won a close game but the giants learned from it. It could be compared to 2007 when the giants played new england and they lost but it helped in the SB

Great, great point..it was late in the season, too, if I remember correctly. Only difference from the SB is that while Hostetler had already become the starter for the NYG, I believe Frank Reich started for the Bills. But like you said, you still get a feel for the personnel, their packages and no huddle style.

Everything about that 2019 SB in Atlanta was a complete dud. The game, halftime show, coverage, etc.

CHICAGO
2006 AFC, definitely. It was a foregone conclusion that either Indy or New England would beat Chicago in the SB

This is a lie.

The bears was whooping indy.

Till smith decided to get nostalgic.

Plus buy into revisiting Walter Payton low ball halas hall semantics. To not pay Thomas Jones. The same way they tried to squeeze Walter out in the superbowl and not allow him a chance to get a td in the superbowl. As a bargaining chip tonlow ball Walter from being paid a then industry high of a million. In 2006 the same halls hall semantics came into play woth Jones. Being undermined by Benson.

If Smith would have played smart.
Gave the ball to jones.
As well as not buy into ego versus his old coach.

The bears would have beaten the colts.
There was no way that year an afc was just given the automatic Duke.

That was the last year.
I was a bears fan.
Who had to deal woth with from halas hall bullshyt politics I could stand.

Before that belichek need to cheat.

Or in thus case Smith deviated from sound theory to win.
If that never happens. It was not a forgone conclusion the afc would win th superbowl. Power had not shifted completely to the afc in that time.

To answer the thread starter.

The nfc championship for all rhe time.
I was cognitive to watch football in 1984.
Till the patriots cheated with belichek. The nfc championship game was a forgone conclusion as deciding who won rhe superbowl.
