After the Haitian Revolution, an influx of around 10,000 people arrived in New Orleans from former St. Domingue. They had fled to Cuba and other islands, before being booted out of there.
That group was roughly a third white, gens de coleur(free), and enslaved African.
The size of the mixed race population in just the city of New Orleans DOUBLED because of this influx of St. Dominguan mixed race people. These "new" mixed race people made up maybe a third or more of the total number of mixed race people in the first census taken in that Louisiana territory as part of the United States.
That group helped increase the size of the Creole population in that region. There is a chance that people of Louisiana Creole heritage would have ancestors from St. Domingue.
Person running with "us" and "them" tactics (with
them as the villains) might end up having to cop pleas to his audience if he has some of those ancestors.
