bent over rows
pull ups

and

the secret to a jacked back = heavy high rep rack pulls. My back exploded repping big weight and high reps on these (I cant deadlift any more due to injury). I sent the rack up so the bar sits in the middle of my knee, some people set it up higher and some just below the knee, the lower you go the more it becomes a traditional deadlift.

also some of those hammer strength machines work really well.

Personally I don't like any free weight rows. Bent over/Pendlays, I feel like they put too much strain on the lower back. Dumbbell rows, too much room to cheat, and I feel like I don't get the full ROM I want. For me, weighted chins, seated cable rows, Hammer Strength behind the back rows, t bar rows and deads are where its at. I have a good mind/muscle connection w/my lats, so exercises that distract that connection = no good to me.

I feel you completely. :wow:

:leon:Thought it was just me regarding freeweight rows.Same with chest flies...I cant get the form perfect. I feel like I aint doing it right so its limiting the weight I can lift.

Back is the only muscle group I use machines on....

I can never hit that bytch right with DB/BB. Outside of deadlift everything else just feels like I wasting my time and should be on a machine

damn, that's crazy, I could've swore I was the only one that didn't like doing free weight rows

my back workout usually consists of:

seated v-bar cable rows
wide grip lat pulldown
pullups
inverted close grip pulldows
seated good mornings

I should definitely deadlift more, but I get lazy sometimes

Yea I use the machine for chest rows too. Machine/cables put a more uniform force on your shyt through the range of motion.... freeweights, its like impossible to hold once your arms are out, and then there is literally no tension on your chest at the top of the motion....

Even chinups aren't that good for lats for me... I mean I am sure they help... but I do them more for arms. I get way more of that mind-muscle connection with machines. I was cable rowing 220x10 and still flexing+holding my lats at the peak of each rep

Every muscle is just different... gotta figure out what you like for each one

Lying T-bar row is great and doesn't put much stress on your lower back, and inverted rows with your feet up on a bench are a nice warmup too.

I've tried using the lying T-bar row many times, and I always feel like my lower back is gonna get snapped up. I'm 6-3, so it might be a matter of where I position myself on the pad. I'm doing back and bis later today, I'll see if I give it a try again.
