It was perfectly fine, the fingerpoke of doom is what ruined it
No, no, no..yes it was quite the gamble on this guy from the Power plant but the physical charisma, the strength feats, the Mike Tyson effect squash matches was great writing. Did he DESERVE a super push? Of course not. He had a horrible attitude proven in his interactions with Jericho and how much he was a mark for his character in thinking Scott Steiner could whoop him. But the presentation was all money. The problem isn't the streak. the problem is the type of wrestler Goldberg is and then giving him the streak on top of that.
It didn't need to be a young guy because Goldberg was young himself at 32, but the buzz was always electric whenever Goldberg and Sting squared off (Nitro 98, Slamboree 99).All these Sting suggestions are weird to me. Sting was 40, had been the flagship for a decade, it was time for him to pass the torch, not take it back from the new guy.

And Sting proved in his match vs DDP in April 99 that even at 40 he can still pull off great matches.

He can't carry a match but the guy has his merits to get by.I like Goldberg but he can't wrestle so it's hard to make him lose and keep the same interest and credibility
Great suggestion because the fans would of bought it. Sting is the kind of character to win against the odds when it matters..that made sense. All these Sting suggestions are weird to me. WCW back themselves into a corner with his streak
And
Ironically, WWE backed themselves into a corner with The Fiend's streak
When I was a kid no one remembered his run in old wcw before nitroRight but....he had been the top guy in WCW for 10 years at that point. What would he have gained by being the one to end the streak? What would WCW have gained?
