Name one pitt and smith performance that are oscar worthy. Smith has Ali but pitt has zero
I liked him in Seven

Play a physically disabled person and then a woman back to back. Can the Academy fall for this blatant pandering two years in a row? Probably. lol

Are they though? How many oscars does Pacino or De Niro have? How many does Scorsese have? No one would dispute their positions in the pantheon of great actors or Scorsese's as one of the greatest directors ever. Including the academy. They recognize the validation an award gives you but also understand that they're capable of being wrong in the long-run or just realizing that the choices they make in the moment are just that: in the moment. If he has the best performance this year, then he deserves it, straight up

Fair but this guys just does oscar bait and that's it. Can he open movie? J-Law just did. The academy is out of touch, if all you had to do was just arthouse bait I guess Parkey Posey should be an oscar contender too.
12 Monkeys he got nominated.
This too.

I didnt see the theory of everything, probably i wont se the danish girl either. Even if amber heard is in it
He should be nominated for best actress tho...
1. Leonardo DiCaprio, "The Revenant"
2. Michael Fassbender, "Steve Jobs"
3. Matt Damon, "The Martian"
4. Eddie Redmayne, "The Danish Girl"
5. Johnny Depp, "Black Mass"
6. Tom Hanks, "Bridge of Spies"
7. Michael Caine, "Youth"
8. Steve Carell, "The Big Short"
9. Michael B. Jordan, "Creed"
10. Ian McKellen, "Mr. Holmes"
11. Bryan Cranston, "Trumbo"
12. Will Smith, "Concussion

These are the actors that could be nominated
Inarritu could win best director again
The revenant comes out next year tho... so will it contend for 2015?

The Revenant will drop limited on Christmas so yes it contends.

You forgot fassbender in Macbeth. He may cancel himself out though.

Danish girl isn't getting crazy buzz so i doubt he wins. Rt score is good but the critics rated it 6.3/10 and that matters.

No clear frontrunner for best actor this year so Leo could finally win

:pacspit: Redmayne

It's the oscars...they don't give a shyt about you opening a movie lol. If that were the case, the hurt locker wouldn't have won its oscar, neither would old country for old men or a lot of things that have won.

But they don't...and truth be told, I'm kinda with them on that. You being able to open a movie doesn't mean you're an academy award worthy actor. The two aren't synonymous. Can you be? Yes, but being one doesn't mean you're great and not being one doesn't mean you aren't great. Slapping Daniel Day Lewis' name on a movie doesn't guarantee it's going to open to big numbers but does that take away his greatness as an actor? Should we strip his oscars?

People have been complaining since the blockbuster era started that americans don't like smart movies and we don't like to think and we just like popcorn. That's not a new argument and it will continue until the end of time. :whoknows:
