Mostly because if the work is good, I'm not mad at anyone for winning. He was really good in the theory of everything. Would he have been my pick? No, but it's not like he was doing terrible work and got rewarded for it. And I'm sure he's going to do great work in the danish girl too

Are they though? How many oscars does Pacino or De Niro have? How many does Scorsese have? No one would dispute their positions in the pantheon of great actors or Scorsese's as one of the greatest directors ever. Including the academy. They recognize the validation an award gives you but also understand that they're capable of being wrong in the long-run or just realizing that the choices they make in the moment are just that: in the moment. If he has the best performance this year, then he deserves it, straight up
