What Went Wrong With AJ Soprano?

Why/how did AJ Soprano turn out different than his sister? They were both raised by the same parents so what went wrong with AJ? He is a chronic underachiever and has self esteem issues. Compared to what his sister accomplished and what her work ethic was like.

If you were AJ Soprano's parent what would you have done differently than Tony and Carmela?? What can you do as a parent to ensure your child doesn't end up like that??

I think he was subconsciously spoiled by his parents because they didnt want him to fall into that lifestyle more so than meadow.

AJ felt he had to live up to his fathers name...but he didnt have the drive, or the same upbringing Tony did.

Not be a hoe and do well in school...thats about it.

...father was self made...but the son grew up comfortable and didnt know what real pressure felt like...so they end up being wanderers.

Father loves his son...but he thinks he's weak.

On a show with so many sociopaths, it’s crazy that I hated Janice and AJ the most.

AJ was such a useless, entitled and loser piece of shyt. The only time I had neutral feelings about him is when he was dating Blanca and acted somewhat like a man. Otherwise, he acted like detached bratty a$$hole.

Honestly, I don’t know what more his parents could have done. Some people are just born losers.

I think Td Jake's said it that discipline for boys/men is love.

He was spoiled rotten which is not good for boys. Also lazy..and Tony doesn't know how to be a leader, just a bully.

So while Tony didn't force the lifestyle on him he didn't do nothing to teach hi m how to be a man.

I think Tony hated that AJ wasn't more like him. He may have told him he was grateful he wasn't, but AJ wasn't built for that type of lifestyle. Tony mentioned many times how he never knew where he stood with his dad. Meadow was more Tony than AJ, that probably disappointed him. He wasn't all that spoiled IMO, Carmella stood in the way of Tony disciplining him and he was very lenient as well.
