For some reason pretty mixed, thought the NaS collab was dope enough for their stature, but probably felt a bit Common by the pound, he did his thing on it and that was that.

Def have it above the before and after albums (UMC and Nobody's Smiling) in his discography.

Appreciate the thread, even more so in the sea of nonsense flowing through, thanks for reminding me of this album, will try to revisit

There are maybe one or two songs on it that I revisit (the title/intro track being the main one) but other than that, forgettable album.

Not a bad album, just one that doesn't warrant revisiting or much thought or analysis.

a dope ass album. It was his first album with No ID since 1997 and the songs were great. My favorite song on the album was the first cut(title track). Everything about that song was great. The drums smacked, vocal sample, piano riff and Maya Angelou with the poem. I may be in the minority, but i think Common's best work is with No ID. He's great with Kanye and Dilla too, but it's something about him and NO ID that I like more than his other works. And yes I have the physical copy.

This album was when I was convinced that No ID shouldn't be called to do whole albums anymore.

Resurrection is still my favorite Common album, and in my opinion, his best work. But that version of No ID doesn't exist anymore. He's wild inconsistent now with the beats.

It was great but i probably revisit it less than my other favorite Common albums.

I honestly feel like Common and No I.D. Have outgrown each other musically. Com sounded MUCH better on Black America Again (which is no less than 4.5/5) and No did MUCH better work on 4:44 with Hov and Life Is Good with Nas.

I’ll put it at a 7.5/10. Its better than Nobody’s Smiling, which was a HUGE disappointment to me

I enjoyed it as much as I could when it dropped. I’m in a minority that like “nobody’s smiling” more. I like all of Com’s albums except for Universal Mind Control. I’m also not the biggest No ID fan, but I loved his work on “One day it Will All Make Sense” (my favorite common album, though I think “like water for chocolate” is his best/strongest overall.
