I know OP said no comic book movies, but The Dark Knight changed the way people viewed those type of movies.
It's one of the few popcorn movies that even the highbrow art film crowd had to even acknowledge the greatness of the filmmaking

not including Marvel films

I was watching this video about how Blockbuster filmmaking is often overlooked, and how it too is a process that requires work and effort, and not simply "mindless" as they are portrayed.

James Cameron has always been the best director in my opinion, who nails what makes a Blockbuster film a success. a combination of the action but also the emotional core, characters, motivations etc.

Reason why nothing fukking with Aliens or T2 now a days. What was the last great blockbuster in your opinion

Yeah Cameron is one of the few directors who can balance story and action. I'll Spielberg and Nolan in the mix

The Dark Knight imo is the T2 of the new millennium.

People saying Dune, no. I mean it was obviously successful but not a phenomenon like Batman 89, T2, Jurassic Park, ID4, TDK etc.

Exactly and this technically Badboys 4 Life was a blockbuster and was number 1 in the world for like 6-8 months:hubie:

But I’d say maybe Star Wars ep 9

Yeah, Mission Impossible: Fallout. Had everything you wanted while being far more entertaining than you thought it would be.
