detroit was known for producing boxers way before the kronk gym was even open breh.
The Kronk gym opened in the 1920's breh breh. I'm not saying Detroit is irrelevant in the boxing scene but Gleasons Gym was probably the best boxing gym the US had for the longest time. LaMotta, Duran, Even Ali trained there. Holmes, Spinx, Chavez, Camacho, Bowe, Tyson, Gatti, Hearns (from detroit) All trained at Gleasons at some point.
New York was known for the the best sparring. Now I heard L.A. has that title. New York was considered the mecca of boxing tho. Vegas is now but some people say L.A.
Philly is right up there with Detroit and New York on producing champions.
